Do you really think Zohra Mamdani would’ve gained this much hype if he wasn’t brown, if the word “Indian origin” wasn’t attached to him? Let’s be real. The only reason he gets this level of noise is because we talked about him, whether in praise or outrage, and in doing so, we handed him cultural currency. He plays a politics that’s hostile to India, but benefits from looking like he’s from India. That’s the game. Say the exact same things with a white face, and he’s just another socialist. Say them with a brown face, and suddenly you’re “diverse,” “brave,” and “historic.” This is why so many abroad learn to perform anti-India scripts, they know who’ll clap. The more they bash the country they left, the more validation they get from the countries they seek to belong to. And they’re rewarded with platforms, praise, and power. We need to stop confusing skin color with solidarity. Not every brown face abroad wants the best for India. Some just want to be accepted there, even if it means mocking where they came from. Stop making mascots out of people who treat their roots like dirt.
