NDC was Not Last Minute Decision, It has been part of the Consideration — Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo has clarified that the decision to join the NDC was not a last-minute move, but rather a well-thought-out process that had been under consideration for a long time. Speaking during an interview, the federal lawmaker explained that the party had always been among the options carefully reviewed by opposition forces before arriving at their final decision. According to Hon. Uchenna Harris, their major focus during the consultations was to identify a political platform that is stable, peaceful, and free from persistent internal crises and leadership tussles. He noted that after carefully understudying different political parties, they became convinced that the NDC provides a conducive environment for progressive politics and effective political participation. He further stressed that the decision was driven by the desire to operate within a party structure that encourages unity, collaboration, and growth, adding that internal conflicts in political parties often hinder productivity and distract leaders from delivering good governance to the people. He maintained that their movement to the NDC was based on deep consultations, strategic considerations, and the collective interest of their supporters and constituents. Mr. Peter Obi has said it Countless times that he is a leader and mentor to Me - Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, during an interview on Channels Television, responded to questions regarding his consistent political alignment with Peter Obi in moving from one political party to another. The federal lawmaker stated that Mr. Obi is a leader and mentor to him, stressing that their political relationship is built on trust, shared ideals, and a common vision for Nigeria. Hon. Okonkwo further explained that the recent political decisions were not taken in isolation, noting that there were wide-ranging consultations before any movement was made. According to him, Mr. Obi carried members of the National Assembly along in the decision-making process, ensuring that critical stakeholders were consulted before arriving at a final position. He emphasized that the discussions centered on the future of the movement and the need to strengthen internal unity ahead of 2027 general elections. The lawmaker also stated that the primary objective behind the movement was to identify a political platform with peace, stability, and a conducive environment for growth. He noted that it would be difficult to build a strong and formidable political party in an atmosphere plagued by persistent leadership crises and internal conflicts. Hon. Okonkwo maintained that the decision was driven by the desire to create a stable political structure capable of delivering good governance and meeting the expectations of Nigerians. Yesterday, I had the honour of attending the NAFDAC Conference themed “Safeguarding the Nation’s Health, Empowering Progress” in my capacity as the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on NAFDAC, at the National Assembly. The conference provided a critical platform for stakeholders across the health, pharmaceutical, regulatory and industrial sectors to deliberate on strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare systems, combating counterfeit and substandard products, and advancing policies that protect public health while encouraging innovation and economic growth. As legislators, our responsibility goes beyond oversight; it is to support frameworks that enhance regulatory efficiency, promote local pharmaceutical manufacturing, encourage compliance, and ensure Nigerians have access to safe, quality and affordable products. I commend National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control for sustaining conversations that drive national development through health security and consumer protection. The collaboration between government institutions, industry players and development partners remains vital in building a healthier and more productive nation. I remain committed to supporting policies and legislative interventions that will continue to strengthen NAFDAC’s mandate and safeguard the wellbeing of Nigerians. Hon. Today, I took a difficult but necessary step — a step guided by conviction, reflection, and an unwavering commitment to the people I represent. I have formally resigned my membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This decision was not made lightly. It comes at a time when the party is facing deep internal challenges, including a protracted leadership crisis that has now drawn the intervention of the Supreme Court. The apex court has ordered that the dispute be returned to the Federal High Court for full determination, underscoring that the issues within the party remain unresolved and far from settled. At such a defining moment, leadership must be anchored on clarity, stability, and a unified direction — values that are essential not just for political parties, but for the credibility of our democratic process. While I remain grateful for the opportunities, relationships, and experiences within the ADC, I believe that the path forward must be one that allows me to serve my constituents with focus, strength, and without distraction. My allegiance has always been, and will always remain, to the good people of Idemili North and South Federal Constituency. Politics, for me, is not about platforms alone — it is about purpose. It is about impact. It is about delivering real results and building a future our people can believe in. In this next phase of my journey, I move forward with renewed courage and clarity, aligned with the vision of purposeful leadership and national rebirth alongside my mentor and leader, Mr. Peter Obi — a man whose commitment to a better Nigeria continues to inspire millions. This is not a departure from service. It is a repositioning for greater service. Idemili comes first. Always. The journey continues. — Hon. Fellow Nigerians, good morning. I woke up this morning after my church service with a deeply reflective heart, and despite every constraint, I felt compelled to share these thoughts with you. Many people do not truly understand the silent pains some of us carry daily—the private struggles, emotional burdens, and quiet battles we face while trying to survive and serve sincerely in difficult circumstances. We now live in an environment that has become increasingly toxic, where the very system that should protect and create opportunities for decent living often works against the people—a society where intimidation, insecurity, endless scrutiny, and discouragement have become normal. More painful is when some of those you associate with, believing you would find understanding and solidarity among them, become part of the pressure you face. Some who publicly identify with you privately distance themselves or join in unfair criticism. We live in a society where humility is mistaken for weakness, respect is seen as a lack of courage, and compassion is treated as foolishness—a system where treating people equally is questioned simply because you refuse to worship status, tribe, class, or power. Personally, I have never looked down on anyone except to uplift them. I have never used privilege, position, or resources to oppress others, intimidate the weak, or make people feel small. To me, leadership has always been about service, sacrifice, and helping others rise. Let me state clearly: my decision to leave the ADC is not because our highly respected Chairman, Senator David Mark, treated me badly, nor because my leader and elder brother, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, or any other respected leaders did anything personally wrong to me. I will continue to respect them. However, the same Nigerian state and its agents that created unnecessary crises and hostility within the Labour Party that forced me to leave now appear to be finding their way into the ADC, with endless court cases, internal battles, suspicion, and division, instead of focusing on deeper national problems and playing politics built more on control and exclusion than on service and nation-building. Even within spaces where one labours sincerely, one is sometimes treated like an outsider in one’s own home. You and your team become easy targets for every failure, frustration, or misunderstanding, as though honest contribution has become a favour being tolerated rather than appreciated. And when you choose to leave so that those you are leaving can have peace, and you step out into the cold, you are still maligned and your character is questioned. Despite all your efforts to continue working for a better Nigeria and engaging people with sincerity and goodwill, those who do not wish you well continue to attack your character and question your intentions. There are moments I ask God in prayer: Why is doing the right thing often misconstrued as wrongdoing in our country? Why is integrity not valued? Why is the prudent management of resources, especially when invested in critical areas like education and healthcare, wrongly labelled as stinginess? Why are humility and obedience to the rule of law often taken to be weakness rather than discipline? Let me assure all that I am not desperate to be President, Vice President, or Senate President. I am desperate to see a society that can console a mother whose child has been kidnapped or killed while going to school or work. I am desperate to see a Nigeria where people will not live in IDP camps but in their homes. I am desperate for a country where Nigerian citizens do not go to bed hungry, not knowing where their next meal will come from. Yet, despite everything, I remain resolute. I firmly believe that Nigeria can still become a country with competent leadership based on justice, compassion, and equal opportunity for all. A new Nigeria is POssible. -PO

PRESS STATEMENT 29-03-2026 RESIGNATION FROM THE NEW NIGERIA PEOPLE’S PARTY (NNPP) I wish to formally announce my resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with immediate effect. I seize this opportunity to express my profound gratitude for the honour and privilege of serving as the Party’s National Leader and its Presidential Candidate in the 2023 General Elections. As a committed and bonafide member of the party, this was not an easy decision to make. However, considering the current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape, which calls for strategic realignment, I have found it necessary to identify with another political platform that offers the best opportunity to effectively change the nation. I extend my deepest appreciation to the National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed and the entire National Working Committee for their steadfast support throughout my time. I also thank the Board of Trustees, the National Executive Committee, and all levels of leadership across the party — from the ward to the state level, as well as the legacy members of the party and all followers of the Kwankwasiyya Movement for their dedication and commitment to our shared mission. We shall continue to collaborate and work together towards charting a better and more prosperous future for our dear nation. Signed, Sen.
