Whenever I post videos of Roc Raida, people leave comments with phrases like “Legendary” and “the best to ever do it” about him. But I wonder if they understand the hard work that Raida put in. Raida’s dedication to mastering himself was unparalleled, “I would come up with a routine, and if I can’t do it one time flawless, then I would just trap myself in the house for the rest of the day, like, alright, that’s my punishment.” This means that he wouldn’t go outside if he couldn’t perform a battle set he composed in one take without any mistakes. Raida spent entire summers working hard to become “untouchable”. The X-Men were the same way. That’s why I push my Brolic Army DJ School students to be their best. We all have only 24 hours in a day, which is limited time. But that doesn’t mean we can’t find time to prioritize improving our craft. Don’t wish to improve; make time to work to improve! Mark your calendars for Monday, May 6th! This is the day when our talented students (DJ Shines, DJ Mystery, DJ Goldyi, Jdultraslick, DJ Double ii, DJ Windz, DJ Shaykey, Kano, Leo J, DJ Kut Lee, and DJ Tyson) will pay tribute to @R0C4RAIDA’s legacy. They will compete to showcase their skills in the “Marley Scratch” (Marley Marl and MC Shan) routine, vying for the title of the best performer. On Roc Raida’s birthday, May 17th, I will announce the Top three DJs voted by DMC finalist DJ Axis Pro, the 2023 Roc Raida Challenge Champion El Jeffe aka El Jeffe, and myself. The top three winners will receive prizes from our proud sponsor, #glowtronics. #rocraidachallenge #brolicarmydjschool

In the world of DJing, the choice between learning analog or digital gear is a decision that all aspiring DJs face. Whether vinyl or DVS, each type has its unique characteristics and learning curve. But is it good to start with a traditional turntable guitar before diving into CDJs or Controllers? Each gear path, analog or digital, has its merits and drawbacks. The right choice is a personal one, dependent on your individual goals and preferences. It’s about aligning your equipment with your unique DJing style and aspirations. If pressing buttons is as far as you want to take your DJ prowess, go digital immediately. That said, using good old-fashioned records will always allow you to emphasize the fundamentals of music theory more since you won’t be able to rely on gadgetry that will enable you to use features like Sync as a proxy for not listening well enough to mix two songs, a fundamental DJ skill. DJs who use the standard Technic 1200 and mixer set-up must focus on the purity of their senses. This encourages a deeper understanding of tactlessness, listening, and reacting, which are highly advantageous DJ traits to accumulate in the long run. You also establish a deeper connection with the art of DJing itself when you learn the traditional way. This heightened bond allows you to personalize the functionality behind DJing. One of the beautiful aspects of DJing is the versatility of skills. The techniques and knowledge acquired on turntables can often be seamlessly transferred to CDJs or Controllers. Today’s celebrated legendary DJs and DMC champs started on analog before transitioning to digital. This is not just a theory but a proven fact you should consider the next time you’re being marketed the latest DJ gizmo. brolicarmydjschool.com #workshoparchives #ontherecord #djrobswift #mistasinista #eachoneteachone

Seeing social media focus on bullshit over things that actually uplifts us is the only evidence you need. It makes me know that we have to be the “PEACE” that amplifies goodness and love.

If the core principles of Hip Hop are PEACE, LOVE, UNITY & HAVING FUN, why would 1st generation Hip Hop founders allow themselves to be used as pawns to promote propagandist "documentaries" that contradict those 4 tenets?

At the intersection of Black & Latino culture are people like Richard Pryor, Sammy Davis Jr., & me! Black & Latino culture are not as separate as people may think. You'll see they converge in many ways if you take a closer look. #HispanicHeritageMonth youtu.be/r2xJyEBh3n0?si…

Every DJ should be capable of doing a 5+ hour set. It’s weird hearing DJs say they’ve “run out of songs”… And this is only a thing I’ve heard in recent years. The instant-DJ era has really ruined a lot of what it actually means to play music for people.

DJs be confusing taking pictures and scratching with each other at the annual NAMM show with “unity” but they could stand to learn a lesson in solidarity by studying the Writers Guild of America strike for livable wages. latimes.com/entertainment-…
