"Portal to the rest of the Internet" is key. For years, this site was the front page of a morning paper whose articles were spread all over the web. That isn't *gone*, but management now tries to suppress it & replace it with..."Gunther Eagleman"? "Wall Street Apes"? Come on.
Nate Silver@NateSilver538

It can't be *that* hard to create a version of Twitter/X that removes some of the groupthink but still promotes high-quality engagement and content. And is a portal to the rest of the internet rather than a closed ecosystem, always one of the good things about pre-Elon Twitter.

🚨The Q1 2026 data is in. This is my second quarter collecting the most up-to-date data on New York City rents and integrating them into an interactive heatmap. Link at the bottom.

Yesterday, Ian Happ hit an absolute tank for a home run. 109 off the bat. 32 deg LA. .. except, he didn't. Thanks to our friends at @WeatherApplied, we know that the wind cost him *113 feet* of distance -- which is now the largest stop in the data. --> mlb.com/news/how-ian-h…

Talent: finance learned that developers and engineers needed to be treated like the front office with pay, support, and influence, not the back office where IT historically lived Product management: Bloomberg and other firms that seem to have weaker UI manage to win clients by understanding the workflows that matter (data veractiy, compliance, etc) Sales approach: selling into finance means being in NYC with boots on the ground, product managers* can't phone it in from SF (*you learn quickly which "PM" carries more sway: portfolio managers vs product managers)

A new front in the long-simmering battle between Tech (SF) and Finance (NYC) for over the future of financial technology* Similar tension existed a decade ago: -where does talent want to work? -who make the best product managers? -how do vendors balance product-, sales-, and/or marketing-led growth? (*the term fintech seems to have been co-opted by a segment of VC-backed consumer startups, despite the massive space of people who work at the intersection of finance and tech)

In my latest feature for @WSJ, I’m looking at the battle between the finance bros vs. the tech bros for the soul of business software. Read the full story here: wsj.com/tech/ai/bloomb… @morganlinton @perplexity_ai @dmitry140 @business

AI use cases in the realm of bits having more impact on the realm of atoms
Todd Saunders@toddsaunders

I know Silicon Valley startups don't want to hear this..... But the combination of someone in the trades with deep domain expertise and Claude Code will run circles around your generic software. I talked to Cory LaChance this morning, a mechanical engineer in industrial piping construction in Houston. He normally works with chemical plants and refineries, but now he also works with the terminal He reached out in a DM a few days ago and I was so fired up by his story, I asked him if we could record the conversation and share it. He built a full application that industrial contractors are using every day. It reads piping isometric drawings and automatically extracts every weld count, every material spec, every commodity code. Work that took 10 minutes per drawing now takes 60 seconds. It can do 100 drawings in five minutes, saving days of time. His co-workers are all mind blown, and when he talks to them, it's like they are speaking different languages. His fabrication shop uses it daily, and he built the entire thing in 8 weeks. During those 8 weeks he also had to learn everything about Claude Code, the terminal, VS Code, everything. My favorite quote from him was when he said, "I literally did this with zero outside help other than the AI. My favorite tools are screenshots, step by step instructions and asking Claude to explain things like I'm five." Every trades worker with deep expertise and a willingness to sit down with Claude Code for a few weekends is now a potential software founder. I can't wait to meet more people like Cory.

A universal truth: most radar charts should just be bar charts. Love your stuff, Anthropic!

Radar graphs are among the worst ideas in data visualization. The whole point of them is to show the area and you can usually reorder the labels freely in order to create a desired dramatic effect. Two versions of the same graph: - left one tells the story that AI is rapidly replacing whole industries - right one shows the "jaggedness" and reinforces the idea that humans will always have something that AI won't be able to replicate

Always funny to see a random company go viral and click over to their twitter feed and see the result of a meeting from two years ago: CEO: do we need a social media team? CMO: nah, let’s focus on other channels

I’m a baseball player. I’ve never written a single line of code in my life. But over the last few months, I used AI to build a pitching analytics platform from scratch. 8.9M pitches. Custom ML models. Total transparency. Here is a look at what happens when you give an interested athlete access to AI:
