Nearly 9 million people are economically inactive. 1 in 10 working-age adults now claims sickness or disability benefits - costing £100bn by the end of the decade. Are we really to believe Britain has suddenly become too ill to work? No. The system is broken and more people are exploiting it.

Scrapping the two-child benefit cap is a betrayal. Why should hard-working professionals unable to afford kids ourselves be forced to bankroll families choosing to have three or more? Stop taxing us to the hilt and maybe we could afford children too

@centre_right_ Again you should know that is only true if they are social renting or the private rent is below or equal to LHA. Avg 3 bed near me 1800, avg LHA for a 3bed 1350. Vouchers won't help with the rest.

@drifter104 What a pedant. BTW It does exist. But you’re right that the extra benefit people receive for housing is usually part of a Universal Credit payment. My point is that the help for rent is already covered

@BrexitDuck In fact here is like for like. Unemployed family of 5 v employed family of 5. So the employed family of 5 lose £350 of benefits but they have an income of just short of 3200.

Good morning from a sunny Welsh Wales. Now that Labour has lifted the 2 child benefit cap, a family with 3 children & both parents working needs to earn £71000 to have the same income as a family with 3 children & parents on benefits.
