@Cpt_Rook Home is a hollow between the waves, A clump of nettles, feathery winds, And memory no longer than a day When the animals come back to me From the townland of Carrigskeewaun, From a page lit by the Milky Way. —Michael Longley: Remembering Carrigskeewaun

The physician, seating himself beside Calandrino, fell to feeling his pulse, and presently he said, “Harkye, Calandrino, to speak to thee as a friend, there aileth thee naught but that thou art with child.” Calandrino fell a-roaring and said, “Woe’s me!”—Boccaccio: The Decameron

Giovanni Boccaccio (16.6.1313 – 21.12.1375): Der Decamerone

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree, And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made; Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee, And live alone in the bee-loud glade. Yeats

Of all the creatures that might arrive at your door, few carry as much folklore as the bee 🐝 It was once said that a white-tailed bee buzzing around your home foretold the arrival of a female visitor, while a bee that entered freely brought news of a financial windfall soon to come 💰✨ Regardless as to whether or not these things play out in reality, these industrious pollinators bring a different kind of wealth, helping countless wildflowers, fruits, crops and ourselves to thrive 🌼🌿🐝

@Tree_Folklore Blake: I was walking alone in my garden. There was a great stillness among the branches and flowers. At last, I saw a procession of creatures, of the size and color of grasshoppers, bearing a body laid out in a rose leaf, which they buried with songs and then disappeared.

What do we know about the mortality of fairies? William Blake described how he had once seen a fairy funeral...the tiny body carried upon a rose leaf 🌹 But here in Ireland, as William Butler Yeats wrote "we say they are immortal" 📖 And surely the Fairy Folk must appreciate native wild roses above all others?
