The DTA is snapping back at the report, claiming it reflects a “fundamental misunderstanding” of their operations, uses “outdated data,” and conflates payment errors with fraud. But with Massachusetts posting one of the worst error rates in the country (14.1% in FY24, far above the national average), whistleblower reports of rampant and unabated fraud, and billions on the line, excuses and more hiring aren’t cutting it. Taxpayers already crushed by high taxes, housing costs, and energy bills are footing the bill for this broken system.
