The fact that Quiznos went out of business but Arby’s is still around is a travesty.

@joethornton @DeRushaJ Same, Joe - that's the first thing I thought of. (Except for me it was heard on the old GE tube radio that we kept in the pantry, tuned to 830. I still have it in my den.)

So nice of everyone who reached out: WCCO Radio is owned by Audacy, we are not shutting down. CBS Radio's Hourly News Updates will end in a couple months. Not sure what that means- will we find another provider like Fox or ABC Radio? Will we fold national news into our local updates? TBD.
News Talk 830 WCCO@wccoradio

A memo from CBS on Friday announced that they're ending CBS News Radio, ending a service that aired on approximately 700 affiliated stations around the U.S. That includes stations like WCCO Radio, which has been affiliated with CBS for nearly a century. audacy.com/wccoradio/news…

@nakedpastor Deepest condolences. Mine died six months ago. (Passing at 90 isn't a tragedy, but it's still a real loss.)

@bozlawpa @noedenelsewhere Same. Illegal here now, but legal in his state at the time. Rebuked by his Elder board here when his past was discovered, but supported by hundreds who said "Well, she was 18!" (It split the church and today he has a thriving congregation elsewhere.)

A youth pastor groomed our client from age 16, establishing complete influence and control over her. Within days of her 18th birthday, he initiated sexual contact that continued for months. Tragically, in most states, this predatory abuse is completely lawful.

Okay, I think I got things figured out and if this works, color me impressed with @backblaze - before failing, my drive lost about 90% of its content. I think I got lucky but it'd have been easier if I had flipped that year-long retention switch sooner! :)

Pro tip: if you're a @backblaze customer make sure you've checked the box for free one-year retention (the default is 30 days). My secondary drive died around 33 days ago (and I missed the "drive unavailable" email). Oh, well. I have most of the family photos elsewhere too. :/

@ChrisLongKSTP @DeRushaJ Great minds think alike - my first thought was the smoked salmon options at Northern Waters Smokehaus. (To be fair to the question, I've not actually made a special trip just for it... but every time I'm in Duluth I get it.)

What food would you hop in the car and drive to get in Minnesota... so cravable or so unique or so perfect?? Worth the drive?

@DeRushaJ @webster Catholic priests who are hearing formal confessions are typically exempt from reporting, so there might be some studies on the outcomes of that practice? (No, we can't set up a system of "Step 1: Become Catholic..." but I'm just thinking there might be data for Tony's example?)

Sad to read the replies to this. We talk about ideas and hear people out in good faith on the radio every day. We need more ideas and fewer personal attacks. Here’s the segment @MNUpNorthLakeG1 is referencing : audacy.com/podcast/drivet…

I heard Jason Derusha on his WCCO Radio program this afternoon suggest a new law in MN where if anyone bought more than one firearm in a month's time that that individual should get a home visit from local police or the FBI. Thoughts?

The big question is whether we're under the #minnebar hashtag or the #minnebar19 hashtag... or has today's social conversation moved to other sites? Regardless, @minnestar rocks! What a great tradition here in MSP!

What a weird close to #SNL with Michael Keaton zipping his fly up (coming out of a sketch that didn’t have any special costumed pants, so… ???)

#SNL50 #SNL This first Billie Eilish song is either a ripoff or it's using a sample from a song I can't name. I KNOW I've heard it before.

@oldreepicheep This all stems from that reading of Acts 20:28 there. I've seen Elder boards turn sexual predators loose on the community based on that. ("Our four walls define the flock; others can fend for themselves. No need to care about children of God who aren't on our membership list!")

For one, if a woman comes to church after a workout, then great: she could have gone to Starbucks to wind down, but instead chose to come hear the preaching of Scripture and take part in the life of the Church. Good on her.

@jaredcwilson I watched a church follow nearly every step but they kept it all secret as their disqualified pastor turned around and stared a new church. If you didn't receive the private member letter, you'd not know that his Elders disciplined his ongoing remorseless and unrepentant conduct.

A couple of yrs ago our lead pastor disqualified himself from ministry. A very difficult time for our church. I wasn't one of our elders then, but as a devoted and concerned member -- and even as a close friend of our sr. pastor -- I appreciated how the elders led us...

Here's a weird one that might turn into a PSA: I reinstalled @telegram for a thing, plugged in my phone number, and it said it was sending the confirmation code to the Telegram app on "my other device". That'd be my old phone. Long gone. So, don't upgrade your phone, I guess?

@JoshRKlein @megbasham @scott_m_coley Isn't it the definition of influence that their opinions carry weight? We know we should follow Christ over Paul or Apollos, but the reality is that people don't; we can say "they are wrong, they were wrong," but plenty of people establish their orthopraxy on wrong foundations.

@megbasham @scott_m_coley It's the same crap Vischer does with Billy Graham... Acting as though their opinions carry weight just because they were in influential positions. It's an appeal to authority fallacy... They are wrong, they were wrong. It's that easy.

Help me out, friends. I'm on a webinar and just saw a chat comment of "I tell ChatGPT how I want it to behave, and yes, it's extremely leftist, likely programmed that way." Is there any actual evidence of that, or is that just paranoid ranting? How is ChatGPT output "leftist"?!?

I'm processing the fact that a recent book on church transitions says pastors who interfere in others' ministries risk losing their credentials for "discourteous conduct". (This finally explains to me why so many cowardly "leaders" will let sexual exploitation go unchallenged.)

In the midst of watching the evangelical church fall apart, I'm going to share a story here I've never shared publicly. Around 2005, my husband was a youth pastor & I was a worship leader at a church in Mississippi. We loved that place. The pastor became like a father to us. The congregation was our family. A few years into ministry, a congregant invited me to lunch. This woman & her family had moved from Arkansas to Mississippi to help our pastor start the church we were a part of. During our lunch, she very nonchalantly shared that our pastor had been SENT to MS to start a new church because he had been having an affair with his son's girlfriend. Her family had felt "called" to support him. I was speechless. We resigned the next day. These things are happening under the radar ALL THE TIME because God forbid a pastor face any consequences & have to get a real job. Just move him to another state because he has a "calling". I am disgusted at the state of the "church", the complete lack of concern for the victims & casualties these situations leave behind (do a little research & find out how many people have left their faith behind because of this kind of deceit), and the desperation for ministries to "save face" rather than face themselves in the mirror. I was in the music business for decades & what I've seen in the church is WORSE. Operation Burn the House Down needs to ensue. #morningstar #rickjoyner #ihopkc #mikebickle #pullbackthecurtain

This is a really interesting thread (and series of comments) on the challenges of medical studies... and the range of opinions out there, from "promising treatment thwarted by Big Pharma" to "incredibly dangerous drug that shouldn't be tested".

Yesterday, the FDA rejected MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD treatment. This came as a surprise to tons of people since the phase 3 trials showed *really* promising results. And a lot of people are pretty angry at the FDA right now. So why did the FDA reject it? A 🧵
