Many software engineering teams don't have time to do it right. But surprisingly, they have time to do it twice.

Hot-take: I don't think "vendor consolidation" is a priority for serious infosec ppl. "none of this works" is more common than "all this works but i hate having multiple vendors" Aside from Microsoft, i can't think of many reasonable "just buy it from the consolidator" options

As a… – user cancelling a monthly subscription I want… – at least eleven opportunities to say “yes I am sure I want to unsubscribe”, each with questionable usage of continue and cancel button labels so that… – I might remain subscribed

It’s fascinating to see how quickly something goes from “impossible” to “normal” once something has been done *once*. What’s driving progress isn’t just the fact that we stand on the shoulders of giants, but also that we benchmark ourselves against them.

An old program tape with two clearly visible patches, on sections 250 and 260. The punch card's error, as manifested by the punches, was patched in just the same way a bike tire is patched. This is why we call it patching when we fix existing software.

@FibreTigre Je confirme, en consultant il est vraiment exceptionnel, il prépare bien ses dossiers. Retour sur investissement immédiat pour nous, et il a su se rendre disponible rapidement malgré ses activités effrénées. Encore merci FT !

I would have given a #fosdem presentation today in the Python devroom about asyncio's new features: TaskGroups and ExceptionGroups. Unfortunately I got a viral throat infection and won't be able to present. :'( Hopefully, I can present it another time. Have a good Fosdem!

Delegating is hard because you have to intentionally not do stuff that you want to do because you delegated it. That only leaves the stuff you didn't want to do that you couldn't delegate.

Why do I still use netcat? Because netcat is the Rick Astley of the Linux world. Netcat will never give you up. Netcat will never let you down. It'll be useful as long as IPv4, IPv6, TCP, and UDP are useful. (Just make sure to spell netcat `nc -v`)
