@SusanMcLaughli2 Truly tragic. I remember that night. Conservation and protection of artifacts is of the utmost importance, next to educating our children of their importance.

May 31, 2020 Very sad news to share. Last nights terrorist attack in Richmond claimed a priceless and irreplaceable artifact of Virginia History: General Stonewall Jackson’s flag that has been held in the United Daughters of the Confederacy Headquarters for a very long time. It was incinerated. It’s gone. So too are many irreplaceable manuscripts. From Jason LLoyd's page

Summer’s almost here and cemetery cleaning season is back. Over the years I’ve cleaned, flagged, and maintained hundreds of neglected Confederate graves all across the country. This is what my work looks like. Want to help me restore more historic sites this year?

Remember your ancestors. My 4th Great Grandparents Jim Buchanan (1827 - 1916) Jennie Johnson Buchanan (1825 - 1888) Buchanan Cemetery Clarrisa, North Carolina Jim was a private with the 29th North Carolina Infantry during the War of Northern Aggression. He first saw action at Cumberland Gap in 1862, and was with his regiment until the very end, which for Jim was on April 8, 1865 at the Battle of Spanish Fort in Alabama. Jennie is one of my few genealogical dead ends, at the moment anyway. Jennie’s mother, according to oral tradition, was a woman named Sarah Ledford, but the name is all I have. Nothing is known about her father, other than the fact that he was “a Johnson feller.” Nevertheless, it’s still fun to have a good mystery to chase.

Today has been one of those days when you’re researching your ancestors and you hit gold and a wealth of information. Very proud of my Northern Neck of Virginia ancestors. All of them, from Bacon’s rebellion and the Cavalier days, through and after the Revolutionary War. Find your family, they will always amaze you and make you proud.
