For Tier 1 to be what it should be, we must not lower the bar. Our job in Tier 1 is to set the bar, make learners aware of the bar & what it takes to reach it, & then lift ALL learners to the bar. Lowering anything amounts to nothing. We raise the learners up instead.

Today was @BuncombeSchools 24/25 PD day. I had the pleasure of leading and learning alongside some wonderful educators to deepen our knowledge and plan for @WitWisdomELA. It's going to be a great year!

Kicking off August with @WitWisdomELA Launch training! I'm excited for these teachers to begin their journey teaching the curriculum in a few short weeks.

Great things were happening in @BuncombeSchools SRC at Haw Creek and Weaverville today as we wrapped up our first week! Students were writing using sentence patterning charts and practicing their decoding and encoding skills.

@BuncombeSchools RtA Camps are in full swing this week! I spent time at WD seeing our teachers and students in action today. Students were engaged as they worked on their decoding skills and building knowledge.

Today was great! Teachers are prepared and excited for students to arrive at Summer Reading Camp on Monday. Thank you to my amazing colleagues from @BuncombeSchools, Tsianina, Missy, and Cindy, for presenting today.

@BuncombeSchools is kicking off Summer Reading Camp with all staff this morning. It's a great group ready to make a positive impact on students.

ED-JOY: Oh the delight that filled my heart when I received my personal copy today!!! One of my dreams is to one day be an author of professional texts that equip and inspire educators to advance student learning. Well, today, I celebrate my FIRST entry into The Reading League Journal. In this piece, I highlight the importance of Oral Language, Vocabulary, and Background Knowledge in advancing student achievement in our MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS!!! My favorite quote from this piece (yes, I can celebrate ME lol): “We must not create a learning environment that inhibits the use of students’ home language but rather engages students in learning activities in which they see the connection between their language and the new language. It is through determining the distinct features between the two languages that students internalize critical aspects of the new language.”

@BuncombeSchools Instructional Coaches spent time collaborating on how to leverage PLCs to have a greater impact on student learning outcomes this past week using the PLC+ book. I'm thankful to have amazing colleagues to continue to grow with!

It was a great morning at Glen Arden for Instructional Rounds! Students were engaged and collaborating to meet their learning goals.

@BuncombeSchools Instructional Coaches spent the morning hearing from the WVES coach and admin team about the powerful work they're doing with PLCs. #leadershipmatters

I spent the day digging into @wilsonlanguage #Fundations with 2nd grade colleagues at Avery's Creek today. We had powerful conversations around instructional practices as a PLC that will support our students!

Our final day of @WitWisdomELA Guided Observations was at Estes Elementary. It was another great day seeing the amazing things happening in @BuncombeSchools classrooms!
