I have a nicer home than I ever grew up in, my utilities are never shut off, and I always wipe my ass with 2 ply toilet paper.

If we are being honest - every time I see a motorcycle now (specifically when the rider isn’t wearing a helmet) I have a slight panic attack that usually only lasts a couple minutes & I can deal w it in silence. & sometimes that impending doom feeling lingers & I can’t shake it.

7/x- THEN praised me and thanked me for coming to work with them on their unit and that they always love when I float there. So explain why the hate was necessary. It wasn’t. End thread 🧵

6/x- granted pt in a paced rhythm when I looked after I handed off report. The charge comes back to the nurses station. I confronted her very nicely & she immediately back pedaled and apologized & said no coffee was to blame for the comment….

How To Heal From Emotionally Immature Parents: In homes with emotionally immature parents (EIP) we learn to walk on eggshells. Emotionally immature parents struggle to cope with their emotions and often lash out, give silent treatment, remove their love, or shame their children often unintentionally. Growing up in this environment, we learn we are not safe to fully be ourselves. This creates emotional hypervigilance. Emotional hypervigilance is a survival adaptation where we constantly scan our environment to see shifts or changes in people's mood, facial expression, or tone. Emotional hypervigilance looks like: - constantly asking “are you ok?” without accepting the answer - chronic fear of upsetting or disappointing someone - micromanaging adults behavior: telling people what they 'should' be doing even when they're not receptive - playing peacemaker or mediator in family members conflict even when it doesn’t involve you - replaying conversations over and over again to see if you said something 'wrong' We're attempting to protect ourselves, but as adults emotional hypervigilance can really impact our relationships and can be source of intense anxiety. How To Heal From Emotional Hypervigilance: 1. Understand you're no longer in childhood: in childhood, this kept you safe. As an adult you have options to protect yourself, remove yourself from harmful situations, and set clear boundaries. 2. Let go of the "fixer" role: people who are hypervigilant often believe their role is to fix the problems of adults. Often because they played a therapist role to a parent from a young age. We are not responsible for fixing anyone else's issues expect our own. 3. I trust people's words: if someone tells me everything is fine, I honor their word. I don't keep picking or looking to see if something is wrong. I don't make assumptions, instead I ask for clarity. 4. I allow people to be in their own mood: it's ok for people to be in a mood or emotional state that's different from me. I don't need to fix this or change their mood. 5. I can clearly communicate my needs: as adults, if we have a need, we need to communicate that need. We can't expect people close to us to mind read or 'just know' what we want. 6. I can disappoint people: disappointing an emotionally immature parent can result in the silent treatment, shaming, rejection, or harsh punishment. As adults, we can learn that disappointing people is simply part of life and that healthy adults can cope with disappointment. If this is helpful, bookmark for later, and retweet. Sharing is caring. It will take practice to re-wire your mind and body to feel safe. Trust the process. I'd love feedback on if you prefer this long format mode or threads in the comments.

@Medica4Me I have been actively working on a bill discrepancy since November regarding my daughter’s care(2y). The agent I talked to today refused to speak to me OR my husband regarding an ongoing unresolved claim & LITERALLY asked to discuss billing WITH MY 2 YEAR OLD.
