@QuestsAbroad 1. Me gustas (starting point of liking someone) 2. Te quiero (clear intent and chemistry, not necessarily something serious) 3. Te amo (serious) "Te quiero" is also used with friends and relatives. It's a common phrase to show affection in "that" moment

Love in Spanish is much clearer than the love I grew up with. Two months into dating my partner, I heard "te quiero." To my gringa ears, that meant "I love you," and it felt too soon for words so heavy. I smiled and didn’t say much back. What I didn’t understand was that it wasn't too soon at all. It was the right word for the moment, a clear sign that feelings were developing. I was the one without the vocabulary. When "te amo" came around, months later, I had learned the difference. I said it first, knowing exactly what it meant. In English, we hand someone a word and ask them to figure out the weight. Spanish gives you the vocabulary to express it all, at every stage.

@hthieblot I liked an early YouTube recommendation list for music videos. Unlike today, that recommends you videos you already know, before they showed you videos you don't know that are related to the one you're watching. I discovered many songs and artist that other wise wouldn't have

Wow. Zia Yusuf had just completely destroyed Cathy Newman on Sly News for being unable to say white lives matter as much as black lives. This is the biggest MSM car crash you’ll watch. Hilarious given the Reform boss did the interview from a car!

Jordan Peterson made a really important point: The horrors of the Soviet Union didn’t just come from bad government. They happened because ordinary people were willing to lie, about almost everything. He says the real cause wasn’t political. It was moral. Each person’s relationship to truth, their conscience, and their own soul. We’re so quick to blame systems and leaders, but this hits deeper. The breakdown starts with individuals choosing comfort over honesty. Once enough people accept small lies (even in the name of compassion), it opens the door to much darker places. “We know they are lying, they know they are lying, they know we know they are lying, we know they know we know they are lying, and still they continue to lie.” — Alexander Solzhenitsyn

I once used "no me importa" at my suegra's house and noticed a few raised eyebrows and surprised looks across the room. I did not understand why until later. I had said it casually, the way you say "I don't mind, you pick." It is what I would have said in English without thinking. In Mexican Spanish, though, the phrase lands closer to "I couldn't care less." Dismissive, with a little edge. What I should have said was "me da igual," which means "it's all the same to me" in the warm, flexible way I actually meant. This is the part of learning a language that no textbook prepares you for. The words translate, but cultural impact does not.

Western civilization rests on three pillars: 1. Greek reason 2. Roman law 3. Christian moral order All three are being demolished at the same time, and the chaos you feel is the predictable downstream effect of pulling out the load-bearing structures of your own house.

If taxing unrealized gains is somehow “unfair” for billionaires holding stock, then why are middle class homeowners hit every year with rising property taxes based on the unrealized value of their home? Most people haven’t sold their house. They haven’t “realized” anything. Yet the tax bill keeps going up anyway.
