@_GVNTHER_ @cartographer_s I was just reading this story to my two year old last night. The following morning she then out of blue informed her mom that she did not want Baba Yaga to eat her cantaloupe.

@OriginalA_the_P I don’t think there was a single theologian in England who didn’t think England needed religious reform.

@geharrell By the time of Henry VIII, shutting down monasteries was the equivalent of shutting down USAID.

Everyone needs more John Moriarty in their lives.

John Moriarty 🤝 @Sophiologist_ 🤝 @EoinLenihan “Every bush is a burning bush, burning with green fire, burning with red fire, burning with jewel-blue fire, burning with fire auroral but ordinary, burning with fire we haven't senses or faculties for.” John Moriarty - Dreamtime John is one Ireland's greatest storytellers, an almost mythic character whose time it seems has finally come. youtu.be/JnFgOhxj2nM?si…

"Alchemy posed as a sacred science, whereas chemistry came into its own when substances had shed their sacred attributes. Now there must, of necessity, be a break of continuity between the sacred and the profane plane of experience." - Mircea Eliade

For an author, the bit in this episode of Boggart and Banshee where OUP write to Walter Evans Wentz declining to publish a second edition of 'The Fairy Faith in Celtic Countries' because they only sold 34 copies is just too close to home 😭 podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/wal…

I love that. It’s really rough watching something like Ridley Scott’s “The Last Duel” and seeing how the New Atheist movement strips the sacred-social order away from the past and creates a world comprised only of charlatans, rubes, and victims. In contrast I genuinely enjoyed Egger’s more recent film, “The Northman,” because even though he also desaturated the filter, he actually allowed the world of the past to speak for itself (minus the one unfortunate fight scene with the draugr). So there’s hope that there’s still space to rediscovering this wonder in pop culture.

@geharrell @chrbaxter_yt I love how it reaffirms that there is nothing new under the sun, exposes myths about the Middle Ages and introduces a new audience to the wonder, colour & vitality of this time in history. I like the mix of scholarly references and pop culture vignettes, as I think it will land.
