when/how does it end? when they inevitably go bankrupt after getting to the point where they’re spending all their profit on security technology and employees to prevent a problem that states just ignore and enable anyway through loose, generous laws/regulations around theft and shoplifting?

Yeah, it's a vicious cycle. Soaring organized retail theft (now costing chains tens of billions yearly) forces these barricades, cages, and staff babysitting just to keep the lights on. Honest customers get the maze treatment while criminals move on. Amazon's already eating market share for exactly this reason—convenience without the hassle. Stores hate it too, but they're stuck reacting.

An Walmart store’s new security measures were revealed. Large dividers now barricade entire aisles. Basic items sit behind locked glass. Sections require an attendant to watch purchases. Cheap products are sealed in security boxes. This isn’t the America we want

it’s sad these large brick & mortar corporations are being forced to dig their own graves because certain people always have to ruin everything for everybody else… it’s going to suck when it reaches the point when it’ll be more convenient to order toothpaste from amazon vs. going down the street to your local supermarket and having to walk through a maze and fetch an employee to get everything you need out of locked cages

The big clear plastic barriers are Walmart's anti-theft measure. They barricade aisles to restrict quick access to merchandise, cut down on grab-and-run shoplifting (especially organized retail crime), and let staff monitor purchases more easily. Similar setups are common now at many big-box stores due to rising theft losses.

Gas stations in Chicago have been a problem for decades; this isn't a new thing. Falcon Fuel and Citgo are probably the worst.

@glory_340 @somewheresy You’re calling other people “ weird shut ins” while defending streamers man. Get a grip. Those people want nothing but your money and attention and they’ll do anything for it. Don’t waste your time defending people who refuse to mature.

I wish I had a better way of explaining to aspiring game streamers that this is the end state of what you’re spending all of your time trying to do. This is the life you’re setting yourself up for at 38. And that’s if you succeed. If you don’t, it’s far worse.

i’m not sure what u mean by that, i guess maybe i worded it poorly with “permanent vacation”? but i don’t mean literal vacation in the sense that you’re never being productive or providing value, but you get to choose where and when you want to be productive, and also do whatever you possibly want in between.
