And to say Pope Leo's a leftist, would only be in office thanks to Mr Trump, had anything to do with arrests in churches (which ICE are now doing) or is in league with drug traffickers, rogue status and organised crime gangs is just insane.

What's even more bizarre is Pope Leo can't do anything about crime, immigration or arms control and proliferation, as he doesn't have the military or secular power to control these things. This whole thing reads like a Jack Chick tract.

And to think priests such as former priest Frank Pavone or Fr James Altman thought Trump was the 'best pro-life President ever' and was God's anointed to restore the church to civic power and respectability, or all Trump's opponents were going to the depths of hell.

One is reminded of the time of Phillip the Fair in France, King Henry the VIII in England or Napoleon Bonaparte to show worldly leaders pay only lip service to norms of morality or legality, even in the face of the Pope or any other religious leader.
Scott Smith@hf_222222

An example of the noetic effects of sin - Sin makes you stupid (as does Dementia). Trump was always capable of doing evil things, but this lacks the rat cunning which has historically helped him get away with it.

Catholics across the left/right divide can't often agree on many things. But I'm sure foolish attacks on the Pope by an American President who should know better is something all can agree is out of order.

It seems more important for European and Anglo-American Christians to give more respect to the Africans. They will be a lot more important in the decades to come. pillarcatholic.com/p/in-first-pap…

The Pope is not "woke" so much as US evangelicalism has been veering deeper into heresy for quite some time now & dragging too many Catholics along with it. And the Church is finally saying enough is enough.
Scott Barber@thescottbarber

The Pope is not “woke.” What you’re witnessing is a millennia of Catholic social teaching developed over countless encyclicals and the lifework of a vast cloud of witnesses to the love of Christ towards the whole world.

You’re a Catholic telling the Pope to stay in his lane because he’s advocating for peace? At this point, many of you would probably choose Trump over Jesus himself. It reminds me of that saying that if Jesus Christ were to return today, many modern Christians would be the very ones to crucify him again.
Stephenia Omeh, MBA@StepheniaOmeh

Pope Leo needs to stay his Lane. He is becoming worse than Pope Francis. Leave President Trump alone to do his job.

Pope Leo XIV

Hundreds of millions of people throughout the world are immersed in extreme poverty. Yet, disproportionate wealth remains in the hands of a few. It is an unjust scenario, in the face of which we cannot fail to question ourselves and commit to change things. There is no lack of resources at the root of disparities, but the need to address solvable problems related to a more equitable distribution of wealth, to be achieved with moral sense and honesty.

God does not bless any conflict. Anyone who is a disciple of Christ, the Prince of Peace, is never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs. Military action will not create space for freedom or times of #Peace, which comes only from the patient promotion of coexistence and dialogue among peoples.

Pope Leo is not suggesting anything you couldn't find in many sermons and works of Augustine (his spiritual mentor, being an Augustinian friar) where Augustine condemns the comfortable wealthy classes in his church for neglecting charity and works of mercy towards the poor.

It's quite funny to see some hysterical folks see communism whenever the Pope suggests we should aid the desperately poor, whose plight has been made a lot worse by a 'war of choice' by the billionaire President of the richest nation on Earth.
Eric Metaxas@ericmetaxas

Marxist garbage, coming from the Pope. Perhaps he might mention how the CCP persecute Christians and crush dissent with murder and "organ harvesting". But that wouldn't play as well. Is he getting his talking points from Obama & Axelrod? YIKES.

The obsession with demons, UFOs, geocentrism, anti-vaccine morons, aliens, etc is all a waste of time. Why don't good Catholics read some 'brown bread' like the sober works of Aquinas, Chesterton or even Fr Fred Copleston instead?
Mike Lewis@mfjlewis

Thanks to Melody Lyons for addressing one of the many problematic aspects of celebrity exorcist Fr Chad Ripperger’s "ministry." Hopefully, Church authorities will soon recognize how much harm this man does to the faithful and even to those outside the Church and act.

Humans are incredible. Humans just did that. Humans figured out to get other humans to the moon, and how to bring them home safely. I love us. 🥹

If Pope Leo is delaying a visit to the USA, it's likely for simpler reasons, including waiting for a more opportune time (such as when Trump's presidency turns lame duck and he can cultivate links to contenders like Vance or Rubio).

Ambassador Burch spoke today with His Eminence Cardinal Pierre, the outgoing papal nuncio to the United States, regarding his January meeting with Under Secretary Elbridge Colby. 1/4
DOW Rapid Response@DOWResponse

Under Secretary of War for Policy Elbridge Colby @USWPColby had a substantive, respectful, and professional meeting with Cardinal Pierre, the then-Papal Nuncio, and his team on January 22, 2026. During the cordial meeting, they discussed a range of topics, including issues of morality in foreign policy, the logic of the U.S. National Security Strategy, Europe, Africa, Latin America, and other topics. Cardinal Pierre expressed his appreciation for the outreach and both sides looked forward to continued open and respectful dialogue. In light of grossly false and distorted recent reporting, the Department of War repeats its statement: Recent reporting of the meeting is highly exaggerated and distorted. The meeting between Pentagon and Vatican officials was a respectful and reasonable discussion. We have nothing but the highest regard and welcome continued dialogue with the Holy See.
