Spoljna - a time i unutrašnja - politika SNS-SPS koalicije srlja ubrzano ka svom krahu.
@lonemapleleaf@ProEULiberal1 Which trajectory? Serbia introduced universal male suffrage in 1888, which was restricted in 1893, and restored in 1903. Austria introduced universal male suffrage in 1907. Hungary didn't have it until 1918. In 1914, Serbia was by far the more democratic state.
@ProEULiberal1@hazardppp (In this case Austro-Hungary’s Serbian territories were acquired from the Ottoman Empire)
(And if they had stayed in Austro-Hungary they probably would have become democratic sooner, based on the trajectories of Austria and Yugoslavia)
@lonemapleleaf@ProEULiberal1 After the Balkan Wars, did this not happen. Were the Muslims subjected to a bad time during and right after the war? Yes. Were there war crimes? Yes. Were they genocided and/or ethnically cleansed? No.
@lonemapleleaf@ProEULiberal1 As far as I understand the burning and looting came after the firefight. In any case, it was one example. I agree it wasn't genocidal, but neither were Serbia's crimes in the newly liberated/acquired territories in 1912-13.
@hazardppp@ProEULiberal1 This is a few dozen isolated killings, nearly all men, most of which happened during an active firefight for this city. Definitely war crimes, not genocidal.
@lonemapleleaf@ProEULiberal1 Here is a map with some medieval and modern borders overlaid, this one only starts in 1196 though. By this time Bosnia was a separate state. Also "1389" is the possession of just one the feudal lords after the post-1371 fragmentation of the brief Empire
@lonemapleleaf@ProEULiberal1 Borders in the Balkans have shifted many times :)
Distribution of ethnic groups was mostly stable 10th-15th cent., and then the Ottomans caused a great jumble, with things stabilizing again by the 18th cent. Belgrade spent most of the Middle Ages under Hungarian rule
@lonemapleleaf@ProEULiberal1 Summary executions of anyone suspected of resisting the occupation were common. This primarily targeted the Bosnian Muslims. Banja Luka, which had surrendered to the Austrians peacefully, was burned in reprisal for a failed rebel attack

@hazardppp@ProEULiberal1 "On the flip side, Germany let itself get caught up in events but had an immaculate French invasion plan ready"
This is completely accurate, please read the timeline of who made what decision when and who mobilized to which stage of readiness when.
@lonemapleleaf@ProEULiberal1 Nothing worse then what Austria-Hungary did in Bosnia in 1878 and later when it occupied Serbia in 1915. The Hapsburgs had hardly any moral superiority on that front.
