the side eye was so nasty😭

shane should’ve collared him right here are we kidding.

so ilya is forty and starts forgetting things. small things at first. names, dates, why he walked into a room and then bigger things. years of his career going blurry, pieces of boston, the league and his own life slipping out of reach. and because his father had dementia, ilya knows exactly what kind of fear is waiting for him. then one day while going through old boxes, he finds one hidden in the back of a closet with a note written in russian in his own handwriting: if you found this, it means you already started forgetting. open it. inside are photos, letters, tickets, pieces of a life he does not remember saving. pictures of him young, holding the stanley cup, smiling in places that should mean something. and then… pictures of a man. dark haired, beautiful, laughing beside him, wearing ilya’s #81 jersey, sleeping against his shoulder, looking at him like ilya was home. on the back of one photo, it says: shane and i <3 but ilya does not remember him. not his voice or his laugh. not the way his hand felt. absolutely nothing. but his body does because the second he sees shane’s face, his chest breaks open and he starts crying before he even understands why then he finds the letters he wrote to himself before the forgetting got too bad: his name is shane hollander. you loved him he was the love of your life. you left him when you realized you were getting sick because you thought disappearing would hurt less than making him watch you disappear slowly. it was fear. it was the worst thing you ever did. and ilya realizes he did not just forget shane. he left him first. he loved him, he ruined him, abandoned him without the truth and then forgot him so completely that the only proof left is a box full of memories his own mind erased. the last letter only says: if you remember nothing else, remember this. you loved shane hollander. find him if you can. tell him if you can. and if it is too late, spend whatever is left of you knowing the best part of your life had his name and then ilya wakes up. not forty anymore, not sick and not alone on the floor with shane’s photos in his hands he is nineteen again. in a hotel room he does not recognize, staring at a young face in the mirror, before boston, before the league, before the cup, before shane, before every mistake he has not made yet. but he still remembers the box he remembers the letters he remembers crying over a man his mind had erased. not everything comes back clearly. he does not remember every kiss, every fight, every word. but he remembers enough to know that somewhere out there is the boy he is going to love more than anything and hurt worse than anyone. and this time, ilya has to find him before he becomes a regret. this time he has to say it before the silence wins. because he has already lived through a world where he forgot shane once… he is not losing him twice.

little ilya lying down beside his mom’s body for hours slowly realizing that she is never coming back and deciding to take her necklace before his father can take away the last piece of her he had left :(

Whatever you do…do NOT look at the pain and confusion on Ilya’s face when he realizes Shane was avoiding his kisses on purpose

If hollanov did this trend to each other how do you think they would react cuz I’m laughing my ass off
