@leecronin Many reasons: 1. Knowing gender of authors/reviewers helps journals monitor any discrimination in their processes. 2. Gender is not always obvious from somebody's name (particularly Asian authors) 3. It allows publishers to refer to authors/reviewers with appropriate pronouns.

What is going with the publishers? Why is this relevant?

@catalysis_eth @moniek_tromp There are no breaks. We do not spend 5 minutes to walk from one meeting to another. We do not have 30-50 min travel from and to work. Switch between family and profession is instant. Switch between science and management is instant. Everything is instant. Ultimate efficiency! 😥

There are 4 zoom sessions from 4 pcs at once at home: a final exam, zoom lessons of my son and daughter, some meeting that my wife has for her work. On top of that, I recieve calls by phone and prepare to join a Skype for business meetings... This all is a bit crazy...
