PRESS RELEASE
EDO POLICE DISMANTLE EXTORTION SYNDICATE; DISMISSED OFFICERS TO FACE PROSECUTION
The Edo State Police Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, wishes to inform the general public of a major breakthrough in the fight against criminal elements disguising as law enforcement officers to perpetrate heinous crimes within Benin City and its environs.
The Command had, in recent times, received several complaints from members of the public alleging harassment, abduction, and extortion by individuals posing as police officers. These suspects reportedly operate along Teboga axis off Aduwawa, where they unlawfully stop unsuspecting citizens, forcefully convey them around various roads within Benin City, and eventually take them to Point of Sale (POS) operators to fraudulently extort money from them under duress.
Disturbed by the gravity of these allegations, the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, immediately ordered a discreet and intelligence-driven investigation into the matter. Through sustained surveillance, technical intelligence, and coordinated operations by operatives of the Command, the criminal network was successfully busted.
The following suspects have been arrested in connection with these crimes:
1.Goodluck Jaja ‘M’ (POS Operator)
2.ASP Bonny Paul Onajite
3.Inspector Ehubarieme Wisdom ‘M’
4.Inspector Arebame God’s Power ‘M’
5.Corporal Mordi Philip ‘M’
6.Destiny Emmanuel ‘M’ (Dismissed Police Corporal)
8.Corporal Okon Elvis ‘M’
9.Samuel Nicholas ‘M’ (Mini Bus Driver)
10.Etim Bright ‘M’ (Mini Bus Driver)
Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects, including some serving and dismissed police personnel, formed a well-organized criminal syndicate responsible for a series of serious crimes including abduction and extortion of innocent citizens. They exploited police accoutrements to deceive victims and carried out their operations with impunity, thereby bringing the name of the Nigeria Police Force into disrepute.
Those that are serving personnel are currently undergoing internal disciplinary procedures, including orderly room trials. Upon conclusion of these processes and the ongoing investigation, they will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction to face the full weight of the law.
The Command hereby calls on all victims who may have encountered or fallen prey to this organised criminal gang to come forward and assist the Police with useful information that will aid further investigation and prosecution.
Furthermore, the Edo State Police Command uses this medium to strongly warn all POS operators and merchants to be wary of any individual, including persons in police uniform, who attempt to use their facilities for unlawful transactions or extortion. Any POS operator found to be complicit in such illegal activities will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
In line with the mandate of the Inspector-General of Police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, the Command reassures the good people of Edo State of its unwavering commitment to sanitizing the system, restoring public confidence, and ensuring that no individual, regardless of status, is above the law.

@AluyaPov I don't know when this video was recorded but as at June 2025, that can't be a tinted permit.

@iamignition @LagosPoliceNG I have been threaten with that mobile court for a while, I will try and go one day 😂😂😂
English

These officers of @LagosPoliceNG under bridge Ikeja just jumped into my car, within 10/15 seconds that my car went off (security). I tried to tell them the security went off and I’m trying to restart it. Next thing, they ordered me to drive to their office at 4,Awolowo Way and demanded N52k from me or I will go to mobile court where I will pay N120k for parking illegally. They ended up collecting N11k from me.
I really do not have any energy to drag anything with them today and since it’s weekend, so I just gave them the money but the most surprising part was the young man in mufti that collected the money from me, he noticed I still have some cash on me so he came back to beg me for money.
Listen to our conversation. How mess up can this police institution get ? Like how?💔

@AbisoyeOmotosho There is a "presumption of innocent" law. It's a fundamental human rights that everyone is entitled to even if you're a criminal. Hopefully when they find them guilty, they'll post their faces. @PoliceNG_CRU @CspIniedu
English

What’s the point of making them turn their backs and hide their faces when you’re saying these are officers we already know?
So how are we even sure these are the same people?
There’s a particular officer people are looking for, someone who has caused serious harm and needs to be properly identified and held accountable. People want to actually see him, confirm he’s there, and know he’s facing consequences.
I don’t know if this is official policy, but it honestly defeats the purpose. Transparency matters in situations like this, and covering their faces just raises more questions.

🚨 UPDATE: Alleged police misconduct at Satellite Division, Lagos. Complainant @otpcapalot (Rhapstar) posted a viral video on 4 April 2026 alleging INCIVILITY to members of the public by the alleged officers on surveillance duties from the above Division. #notoimpunity

We saw the video, we acted, and here is where things stand.
When (Rhapstar) posted the viral video on 4 April 2026, alleging misconduct by officers from the Satellite Town Division, Lagos, we took the matter seriously and acted immediately.
The DPO and the officers involved were summoned, statements were obtained, and detailed interviews were conducted.
Preliminary findings indicate the incident occurred in May 2025. We are working to obtain additional details directly from the victims, as their accounts are central to the investigation.
This process is not a cover-up; it is a demonstration of accountability.
The Leadership of the Force management team, has emphasized that the rule of law is non-negotiable in the discharge of police duties nationwide. No officer is above accountability, and no incident is too old to investigate. The investigation is ongoing. We will provide regular updates.
To every Nigerian who spoke up, your voice prompted accountability, as it should be.

@Iselema @CspIniedu It's not by force to join police. If the salary is low, they should find another job.
English

@CspIniedu Is it that these officers are not aware that things have changed, please if you cannot manage your salary before, learn to manage it now because things are changing, it will not be business as usual
English

@omololesnatchit @CspIniedu Nothing like online petition for now. You have to do the hard work by going to the police station yourself with 2 or 3 copies. They will stamp 2 and give you one stamped copy.
English

@CspIniedu Hello.
Please we need a link to submit the petition online going to station is very difficult to get approval from station.
English

@CspIniedu Na since last year boss. Except you're still interested in the case.

@AramideOyekunle One told me today he wants salary earning government worker. Best of luck to them.
