Zimbabwe Republic Police says it has intensified a nationwide operation code-named “Batai Mbhavha Dzemombe Nembudzi / Flash Out Cattle and Goat Rustlers / Bambani Amasela Ezin kom o Lembuzi,” targeting stock theft and the illegal sale of meat. In an update dated 09 May 2026, the police said the operation was launched following a press release issued on 28 April 2026, and that since it started, 415 suspects have been arrested in connection with stock theft cases. The police also said 2 997 others have been apprehended for related violations, including operating without valid butchery licences, illegal meat vending, failure to produce stock movement permits, failure to maintain stock movement register, and contraventions of public health and veterinary regulations. Police said they have recovered 43 cattle, 35 goats, 13 donkeys, one pig, and 54 chickens. The update also said the operation led to the closure of several non-compliant business premises, including 205 butcheries and 125 food outlets. Police commended members of the public for their cooperation and for providing information, and said members of the public are urged to continue reporting suspicious movement of livestock or meat through the National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631 or via WhatsApp on 0712 800 197.
