the cutie mark design also reminds me of yin and yang. both her past and present are fundamental in her becoming a bridge for the worlds. so i see her cutie mark resembling both her development in morals and her role in both worlds.

her cutie mark could aslo resemble the connection between the two realms. her being the connection ofc.

my favorite theory is that sunset shimmer was always destined to become a bridge between equestria and the human realm. she's the only one who doesn't have a human counterpart. in a way, she belongs to both universes.
