@nspector4 But they still draw ire for wanting to celebrate themselves in the form of a museum. THAT might get attn in the Eng press. How small of a box do they need to fit in to not draw ire? What’s small enough? What should we call it? Does it need to incl people that called them nazis?

@nspector4 2 solitudes implies being apart from (the other) society. LCF were #1 on Canadian charts, not just QC. To not acknowledge what a triumph that was for a Canadian band isn’t ‘solitude’, it’s mean. Achievements among the peuple QCois are quiet affairs. There’s no witness in the RoC.

@nspector4 I would not, no, is my point. He compared the Québécois nation to nazis repeatedly. May he rest in peace and may his accomplishments be celebrated by those he didn’t take the trouble to treat with ignorance and cruelty. Québécois people are not doormats. It’s not that complicated

@nspector4 If he was ‘vicious’ toward the Québécois nation why would he be celebrated by them? Do you celebrate your neighbours that do good things for the community but treat you with unkindness and ignorance? Umm no. If they’re so wonderful, someone else (ROC) will surely celebrate them.

@DrSChouinard @Concacaf This story will only be reported by Fr media outlets. Eng minority lang rights concerns get reported in Fr & Eng across Canada (incl in QC). Add to that, that the Eng language is not at risk, but the Fr language is, and the double standard seems less "innocent", than unkind.

@DrSChouinard @Concacaf The Eng version of the director’s apology refers to the incident as an “innocent mistake”. If a CONCACAF media officer is trained such that mistakes like this are considered "innocent”, it suggests he simply didn't know better, presumably because no one ever explained it to him.

@nspector4 @WSJ Absolument! Et à tous les matchs de la LNH au Canada (ou au minimum, chaque fois que les Canadiens jouent).

@nspector4 @WSJ Last night at the Habs game in Montreal, the national anthem was only played in English. When queried, a worker said they alternate English and French anthems from game to game out of respect for the English minority group of Quebec.

@nspector4 @mtlgazette I did meet a few profs that proudly bragged about having gotten by in Quebec without learning French despite having been there for decades.

@nspector4 @mtlgazette I did my BA at Bishops & my MA/PhD at McGill. That’s 12yrs at anglo universities in QC. I met exactly zero students from RoC that made any effort to learn Fr while they were there. Most left after their studies. Maybe times have changed (highly doubt it).

@perreaux @Patrickdery Thank you. I appreciate this article. Why flip to Eng minority rights midway through though? Fr minority language issues are rarely reported in the Eng press. When the odd exception presents itself, it always seems to become an opportunity to witness the plight of anglos in QC.

What a lovely initiative! John Abbott was the only college/lycée chosen in North America to participate in the deliberations. En amour avec la lecture | Le téléjournal avec Céline Galipeau ici.radio-canada.ca/tele/le-telejo…

Marc-Antoine Dequoy’s impassioned speech has been picked up by all major outlets in Canada.. Just not the part about the exclusion of French at a Grey Cup event with a QC team in the finals, and within a league that calls itself ‘bilingual’. That part is dismissed altogether.

90K fans sang Sur mon épaule to Karl in July. LCF is one of the most iconic bands in Can history but unknown to the avg Canadian! How invisible is it, that no matter what you achieve, if it’s in Fr, it will not be seen, heard, validated by your countrymen? m.youtube.com/watch?v=XaUdyu…

@nspector4 When wishful thinking gets printed as fact though and is used as pretence that QC is being over dramatic, it’s gaslighting. And with no alternative, more accurate narrative in Canada’s English media, it just breeds division. Full article if others want it montrealgazette.com/opinion/column…

@nspector4 Montreal is not a Francophone city. Has the author who loves Montreal so much spent any time there in the last 10 years? It’s English everywhere. Even Laval is mostly English-speaking now. What’s it called when people say one thing and do another? Oh yeah, two-faced.
