Our latest paper on COVID-19 (doi.org/10.3390/microo…) shows how transmission TO domestic animals or TO wildlife may be important. Indeed, through spill-back and 2ndry spillover, major mutations could be going on "under the radar" that might later return to us.

We have a new paper out from @EcoLab_BET and it is a front-pager. Showing how the iconic #orchid Ophrys insectifera is expected to move under climate change. The South will lose but the North (including the UK) will gain. Well done @marthonio_ and team!

Yikes! Most couples in a big nation met online (the only other growing (& exponentially) venue is "met in a bar"). Here's the article (pnas.org/content/116/36…) in that wonderful #PNAS. So, watch out @EcoLab_BET! We started meeting online, so romance may grow exponentially.

Another interesting paper (onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…) from the old country, from #Ireland . Authors look at the #COVID19 crisis and try to foretell the economic aftershocks, and to whom. Though we can never really foretell (hasn't 2016-21 been full of surprises?) we must try.

Interesting paper (sciencedirect.com/science/articl…) harmonizing sea-otter population recovery with continued health of the Dungeness crab fishery. Also note how fecund organisms as Dungeness crab are so strongly driven by “bottom up” environmental factors. Like #orchids .

This week a major Greek game show (#gntmgr ) featured SUVs ploughing through a #Natura2000 site. This kind of thing sends a VERY bad message! Scientists can remind people that nature protection is now a serious thing. See Prof. Vokou's comment facebook.com/people/DesBet-….
