TODAY: Hundreds rallied at the offices of Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, demanding an end to U.S. funding for Israel, with NYPD making dozens of arrests. As people across the U.S. file their taxes, protesters pointed to the more than $4 billion sent to Israel in 2026 alone. Protestors brought attention to Israel’s deadly bombing of Lebanon, the U.S.–Israel war on Iran, and the ongoing attacks on Palestinians. Palestinian, Jewish, Iranian, and Lebanese New Yorkers stood united with one message: Fund people, not bombs.

Great news: The Bob Baker Marionette Theater is going to buy the Highland Park building they've been leasing since 2019. To combat the current landlord's rent increases the operation is in the home stretch of buying the former York Theater outright. Per @ToddMartens: "Bob Baker over the last year has raised $4.5 million of the $5 million purchase price. It is seeking $500,000 to close the gap as well as an additional $2 million for what it describes as critical renovations, such as repairing the building’s roof and restrooms." latimes.com/travel/story/2…

Philz Coffee, a San Francisco-born coffee chain, will remove Pride flags from all of its locations, the company said Wednesday, confirming the policy after an online petition criticizing the move spread rapidly on social media. On Sunday, a group calling itself Philz Coffee Baristas decried in a Change.org petition what it described as “Philz Coffee’s recent decision to remove pride flags from their stores” and asked the company to reverse it. In an emailed statement to the Chronicle, CEO Mahesh Sadarangani said that Philz “was working toward creating a more consistent, inclusive experience across all our stores, including removing a variety of flags and other decor.”

I get that this is an unpopular view but: We need more journalists & fewer pundits. We need more original reporting & fewer hot takes riffing off the news. We don't have this because reporting takes work and is difficult & pontificating on YouTube is lazy & easy.
