Work Experience >>> Certification. Although, it can be argued that Professional Certification gives you the visibility. I can accept the fact that if you are an ACA you should earn more than a Graduate Accountant or Qualified Accountant. Salary should also be determined by location. You don't expect ACAs in Lagos and Abuja to earn equally as ACAs living and working in Ebonyi, Osun and Zamfara. Salary should also be determined by industry. For example Oil and Gas will pay more than. Transport and Logistics will pay more than Pharmaceuticals. Salary should also be determined by the revenue of the company. As an emoployee you should also determine your own salary based on your own circumstances. - Marital Status - Location of the job - Living expenses - Savings - Provisions for health care There is also the economics of labour to consider. If you don't accept that offer someone else will. What that means is that you focus on yourself. Focus on: - verifiable work experience; - networking; and - declining offers that undervalues you. The right employer will match or exceed your salary expectations.

Don't employ an ICAN member to pay him 100k. It waters down the profession. Employ a non ICAN member instead.

In a conversation I had with a colleague this week, I described the UK job market as having a “notorious preference for relevant experience.” To explain further, I said that it is not enough to have financial services experience — it must be insurance. Insurance alone is not enough — it must be speciality insurance. Speciality insurance is not enough either — you must have worked in cyber insurance. The further down that chain one goes, the more strongly candidates are preferred. I have now gotten used to this reality in the market and it helps drive how I do my work and what I position for. Every ambitious person obviously prefer otherwise.
