Educational leadership can’t start with instruction. It starts with relationships. Don’t get me wrong—strong instruction is the goal. But when we lead with that, we often get confusion, frustration, and compliance. People don’t respond to a plan first. They respond to how it feels. Build trust first. Then you can push the work. That’s when things actually move.

Last week I had the privilege of joining Mr. Watts 5th graders in analyzing the crime scene of the Boston Massacre. It was a fun morning listening to the students’ discourse as they were explaining their reasoning using evidence from the sources! @bristowelem
