Born in 1832, Jonathan the tortoise turned 193 today. Yes… 193. This dude is literally the oldest land animal alive. He survived 2 world wars, outlived 40 U.S. presidents, 8 British monarchs, and probably watched more drama on Earth than all of us combined. He can’t see and smell anymore, but he still recognizes his caretakers just by voice and touch like a wise old gangster. Think about this: Jonathan was alive before the lightbulb existed… and there is a high chance he might still be here AFTER some of us are gone. Happy birthday legend... keep confusing time, history, and all of us… and may you live many more years!

In 2003, a German film crew followed a nomadic family in Mongolia's Gobi Desert. The film, The Story of the Weeping Camel, was nominated for an Oscar. A mother camel had rejected her newborn after a brutal two-day labour. Without her milk, the calf would die. The family knew one option. They sent their two young sons on a journey across the desert to find a musician who could perform a ritual called Hoos, a chanting ceremony passed down for centuries specifically for this moment. The musician came. The ritual was performed. The mother camel wept real tears and turned to her calf for the first time. The film crew had gone to document a way of life. They had no idea they would capture that. UNESCO added the Hoos ritual to its Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2015, alongside flamenco, the Mediterranean diet, and the art of Neapolitan pizza making.

In 1974, Daphne Sheldrick achieved something that had eluded conservationists for nearly 30 years she found a way to keep orphaned infant elephants alive. For decades, rescuers had tried and failed to raise baby elephants without their mothers. No matter what they fed them, the calves would weaken and die. Elephant milk is incredibly complex, and without it, survival seemed almost impossible. Every orphaned calf faced the same fate. Daphne refused to accept that. Working in Kenya, she dedicated herself to understanding what these elephants truly needed—not just physically, but emotionally. She spent years experimenting with different milk formulas, adjusting ingredients over and over again, determined to replicate what nature had perfected. After countless failed attempts, she finally discovered the missing piece: a formula that worked, with coconut oil playing a critical role. For the first time, orphaned calves began to survive. But Daphne’s work went far beyond nutrition. She realized baby elephants needed constant care, affection, and companionship just like human children. She and her team became their family, raising them, protecting them, and eventually preparing them to return to the wild. What started as one breakthrough turned into a legacy. The elephants she saved grew up… and many went on to have calves of their own—new lives that would have never existed if she had given up. One woman’s persistence didn’t just save a few animals. It changed the future of an entire generation. Photo Credit: Daphne Sheldrick and her daughter, Angela, with Eleanor, an elephant raised by Daphne. On March 20, 2026, marine researchers near Amelia Island were stunned to identify a famous 50-year-old North Atlantic Right Whale nicknamed "Ghost"—so called for her uncanny ability to vanish from satellite tracking for years at a time—swimming healthily with a newborn calf in tow; this sighting is a monumental victory for one of the world's most endangered species, proving that even the most elusive "invisible" matriarchs are still successfully breeding and fighting to lead their lineage back from the brink of extinction in the quiet corners of the ocean. #GhostWhaleEmerges #RightWhaleCalf #MarineMystery #OceanConservation #EndangeredSpecies #WhaleMatriarch #NatureMiracle #March2026

In the small Argentine town of Ucacha, workers arrived to remove old wooden utility poles and replace them with new concrete ones. They soon discovered two families of woodpeckers nesting inside the rotting wood. Instead of destroying the nests, the project manager told his crew to carefully cut out the exact sections of wood that held the birds. They strapped those hollowed-out blocks directly onto the new concrete poles at the same height and facing the exact same direction, so the woodpeckers would feel at home. The plan worked perfectly. The birds accepted the upgrade without any fuss and continued raising their chicks in their original wooden homes.

A film crew arrived on Tuesday with a drone, a budget, and a 4,000-word researcher's brief about the environmental damage caused by British beef farming. What they found was Gerald. Gerald was in the south corner. 9:30am - The drone went up. Gerald watched the drone for approximately three seconds, concluded it wasn't interesting, and went back to grazing. Thirty seconds of footage: bull, ignoring drone, eating grass. Not the footage. 11:00am - The researcher asked the farmer about Gerald's methane output. The farmer explained the biogenic cycle. The researcher said that wasn't in her brief. The farmer said it was in the peer-reviewed literature. The brief did not contain the peer-reviewed literature. 12:30pm - The cameraman asked if Gerald could do something. The farmer: "Like what?" The cameraman: "Something more active." Gerald lay down in the south corner. Gerald had been awake since 5am and had grazed eleven acres. Gerald found the cameraman's schedule irrelevant. 1:00pm - The producer walked the south corner with an ecologist who was there on a separate Natural England survey. The ecologist pointed out the seven wildflower species. The Bombus humilis. The dung beetle activity. The lapwing pair. The producer: "Is this because of the cow?" Ecologist: "Yes." Producer: "Can we use that?" Ecologist: "You're making a film about Gerald being a problem." Producer: "...Can we use it anyway?" 4:00pm - They left. The documentary has a two-star rating on streaming. The south corner has a UK priority bee species. Gerald is in the south corner. Gerald has not seen the documentary. Gerald does not have a streaming subscription.

Things Keith has eaten that are classified as invasive or problematic scrub species in managed Devon pasture: - Bramble ✓ - Thistle ✓ - Dock ✓ - Nettles ✓ - Coarse rank grass ✓ - Woody shrub encroachment on the eastern border ✓ - A section of blackthorn that had no business being in the middle of the field ✓ Things Keith has eaten that were not invasive or problematic: - The farmer's hat (twice) - A corner of the farm accounts ledger (once, in what may have been a comment on farm profitability) - The neighbour's prize rose - A high-visibility jacket hanging on the gate post - The gate post itself, partially Keith's conservation record: excellent. Keith's record on other matters: under review.

Behind every photo of Punch with his stuffed toy, there’s someone working quietly to ensure that little monkey is doing well. His name is Kosuke Shikano, and he’s one of his main caregivers. When Punch was abandoned by his mother the day after he was born, Shikano and the zoo team made the decision to raise him by hand. They knew that young primates need something to hold on to, so Shikano chose a stuffed toy from IKEA specifically for its long fur and easy grip. Raising a baby monkey isn’t just about feeding him. Shikano prepares every meal, monitors his growth, and gradually helps him socialize with the troop. Every interaction is done with care so that Punch learns without losing his confidence. Millions see Punch’s adorable photos, but behind them is Shikano, showing up every day, making sure that little monkey isn’t alone.

In a small neighborhood park, there’s a massive Maine Coon everyone calls Capitán. For five years, he’s ruled that little patch of green like a quiet king. Not aggressive. Not loud. Just steady. Watching from his favorite bench like a gentle guardian of the block. Then one day, a tiny white kitten appeared. He was beautiful. Fragile. And something wasn’t right. He kept bumping into benches. Planters. Curbs. He didn’t flinch at sudden movements. He didn’t track sound the way kittens do. It didn’t take long for the neighbors to realize the truth. The kitten was blind. Out there alone, he wouldn’t have lasted long. But he wasn’t alone for long. Because Capitán noticed. From that day on, the big Maine Coon never left his side. He started walking slightly ahead, slowing his long, powerful strides so the kitten could brush against his thick fur and follow. Like a living guide rope. When neighbors set out food, Capitán gently nudged him toward the bowls. When they crossed the sidewalk, he adjusted his pace. When they rested on their favorite bench, Capitán curled his massive body around the kitten like a shield. And when it rained? He made sure the kitten was safely tucked under the planter first. Only then would he settle in beside him. A local veterinarian later confirmed it. The little one was born blind. She said without Capitán, he wouldn’t have survived even a week outdoors. He wouldn’t have found food. He wouldn’t have avoided danger. Some neighbors offered to adopt the kitten. But every time they tried separating them, both cats cried endlessly. So the community made a decision. They kept them together. Now their bowls sit side by side. The neighborhood looks out for them daily. And Capitán still walks just ahead, with a tiny white shadow brushing against his fur. Because sometimes family isn’t about where you come from. Sometimes it’s about who slows down for you. Who shields you. Who chooses to guide you when you cannot see the way. And sometimes… the strongest hearts wear fur. 🐾❤️ Credit: Bringer of Rain

One of man’s duties on Earth….to look after God’s creations. That Land Cruiser did an amazing job. Toyota should add "can help pull an elephant from a sink hole" in their adds.😂 The elephant is so exhausted. So happy you could get him out. ❤️
