When I married in 1981 we both worked & most of our salary went on paying the mortgage as the interest rate was 15% at the time. Everything we owned was 2nd hand & we never went out for meals as we couldn’t afford to. We rented our TV Went to the launderette every weekend as had no washing machine. Only had new clothes at Xmas & birthdays as presents. We went without until we could save enough to pay for something. It’s always been hard whether you are young or old. So those out there that think we had it easy we didn’t. Our governments are to blame, not the old.

@aor4life @albumsphere @PariseCarlosM @DoctorCosas The actual retail shop was tiny, no bigger than 20foot x 20 foot, but the mail order which was upstairs was a whole lot bigger.

@aor4life @albumsphere @PariseCarlosM @DoctorCosas The record shops over here these days are usually of the small boutique style. The likes of HMV etc are just vastly overpriced and the only things in their racks is the usual mainstream stuff.

@albumsphere @PariseCarlosM @DoctorCosas I remember David Shaw telling me that when he used to go to the US back in the early 80's, he'd go to places like Texas and Louisiana and record stores there would be the size of warehouses.

Just spent the whole morning listening to the new Queen II Collector's Edition box set and wow — it has never sounded this good! 🔥 The 2026 mix is absolutely incredible — so much clarity, depth, and punch. The whole album feels fresh and regal again. Only downside? I really wish the full expanded edition was available on all-vinyl (the box has 2 LPs with the main album on white + black 180g vinyl plus etched sides, but the extra sessions, backing tracks, BBC stuff and live cuts are CD-only). Still, what’s there is pure magic. Queen II was always a masterpiece — now it’s even better. If you’re a fan, this one’s worth it.
