An element of academia which continues to floor me is that three people in a department can teach the same amount of classes, but one person makes 100k+, another makes 45k, and another makes 18k...and students have zero awareness of this difference.

@FromPhDtoLife This reminds me of the fact that library patrons don’t know if the person helping them is faculty or staff, a credentialed librarian or support staff. We’re all librarians to the people we help.

Folks outside academia don't know what an "assistant professor" is, let alone an "associate." They've definitely no clue what "postdoctoral fellow" means or "predoctoral scholar." Certainly not in any meaningful way. Just like you don't know job title jargon in other fields.

@mollugill Hi Molly! I’m in total agreement about the awkwardness and inaccuracy of this LC heading. Also, love triangles can mean one person who is separately involved with two people, or it can mean a committed relationship among all three people. Definitely needs some disambiguating!

Some call library work ploddingly cut-and-dried, but consider the thrilling unpredictability of magazine holdings. Is this one still printing? Online? Disappeared entirely? No issues for seven months but then yesterday we got three? It's uncertainty at an almost quantum level.

If your neurodivergent inclusive policies only kick in when someone discloses that they're neurodivergent, then these policies are not truly inclusive of neurodivergent people. As much as it can be, accessibility should be inbuilt, not reliant on diagnosis or disclosure.

@edrabinski I have strong feelings about this. Spines perfectly flush with the shelf edge, not just because of my control issues but also because the stacks are more accessible this way!
