@miriam_cates You are talking total nonsense. Our NI payments are in part to pay for our State Pension, hence why it matters how many payments you make during your working life. It is NOT a benefit.

What’s with the orchestrated attack on pensioners today? 🤔 Seems to me like a double whammy of deliberate divisiveness plus a distraction from the real problems of our fcked up society.

as per basic internet search: annual cost to taxpayers of triple lock by 2030 - £15.5bn cost 2025-6 of gold-plated public sector pensions - £37bn which is bigger, more urgent cost to curb?
Tom McPhail@PensionsMonkey

Left unchecked, the Triple Lock will consume the entire known universe, it is an unsustainable transfer of wealth from people in work to the retired. It has to stop. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

Starmer didn’t remove the whip from convicted fraudster Tulip Siddiq or from Chinese spy Joani Reid, but he did remove it from Karl Turner because he disagreed with the removal of jury trials. Labour have sunk to new lows this week.

Britain’s ‘main problems’ are not pensioners and the state pension which is still one of the least generous in Europe. This narrative- that the state pension is some kind of unaffordable problem- needs to be vigorously challenged each and every time we see it.

🚨🇮🇹 Gattuso: “Italy lost just two matches in the group, earned 18 points and still didn’t qualify for the World Cup. But 10 African teams qualified? Who is going to watch them? Are you going to sit in front of the TV for Cape Verde or Curaçao? These qualifying rules are absurd and unfair.”

Sure, that’s why I’ve been campaigning for Remigration for years. 🙄 I’m not a boomer and you lot need to stop attacking your own. You are literally playing into the left’s hands.

They are trying to say that you don't "buy" a state pension, but the fact you don't get the full whack if you haven't made enough contributions destroys their argument instantly.

THOUSANDS flooding Trafalgar Square for the Passion of Jesus on Good Friday! A Christian revival is coming to Britain — and it's about damn time. We've let our faith be mocked and replaced long enough. This is our country. This is our Christian heritage. Stand up, fight back, and reclaim Britain for Christ! 🙏🇬🇧✝️

For people bleating about the triple lock, a reminder that the UK state pension isn’t even close to being in the top 10 in Europe. Denmark’s and Norway’s is DOUBLE ours. Ireland’s is 50% higher. The real question is, where’s all our money gone? lv.com/pensions-retir…

Drill and frack oil and gas , mine coal , reopen the oil refineries, use what we need and sell the excess , and like Norway ( has no debt and a huge wealth fund) become a wealthy state able to care for its people 🤷‍♂️really not rocket science
Tinebob@Tinebobagain

Let’s get positive. My proposal is for indigenous British people to retire at 55 (if they wish) with a very generous pension. How can we fund this? Sensible suggestions below please.

I'm tired of hearing ' you don't pay in to' the state pension because if that's true, why do they assess your NI contributing years and then decide how much you get depending on contributions? (PS, I know it isn't a pot - but you do pay in to get it)

You are incorrect. YOU are expected to pay “voluntary” contributions and these are taken from your pay/credits before you receive any monies. To receive the full new State Pension (currently £230.25 a week for 2025/26), you typically need 35 qualifying years of National Insurance (NI) contributions or credits. A minimum of 10 years is required for any payment. Contributions are made through employment, self-employment, or credits.

I started working at 12 years old. Up at 5am delivering newspapers 7 days a week. I did Carl Bridgwaters paper round because no one would. I've never claimed benefits. My pension age has been pushed back to 67. I've worked for 50 years so far, don't you dare take away my blood pension.

The whole 'pension' debate is ridiculous, if we didn't give billions away to other countries and foreign nationals, we would have enough for every British person who needed it, pensions, pip, child benefit, disability... we could afford to help everyone in need. The government is laughing it's arse off watching you all argue with each other. Divided they fall.

Why do people hate the elderly so much? So tired of listening to the left and some on the right, demonising pensioners for daring to draw a pension, mainly after 40-50 years of hard graft and tax paying. The same people don't want to discuss or demonise in the same way the 1 million 18-24 year olds not working/paying tax and only taking from the state. Or the ballooning benefits bill for those who decide that their ailment means that they can just take from the state regardless of contribution. Benefits should be an acute lifeline or safety net for the very small percentage of us who cannot work or need help to get back to work; not a lifetime activity for those who could but don't work. Leave the elderly alone; £12,500 a year is hardly a bounty and they earned it.
