📣 Mayo GAA announce new CEO 🟢🔴 Ruairí Conroy, a native of Tourmakeady, has been ratified as the first full-time Chief Executive Officer of Mayo GAA at tonight’s monthly meeting of the County Board in Castlebar. 🤝 Mr Conroy was proposed for the role after an extensive recruitment process over the last number of months. @ICdrew It’s a soft call but technically right. You can surely understand the emotions of that and the argument for embellishment is hardly unfounded either. Bottom line what sport in the world has referees from one of the competing nations deciding these things. 🤦‍♂️

@mikemcintyrewpg Fully agree. Real lack of class from Marchand after that penalty, on world feed, could clearly be heard shouting at Haula, “I’ll end your career” not sure why Canada are going down this route.

@lonesharkoy Again I take you back to COVID where it worked and it was done. Bottom line is more games on tv means the sport is more accessible. The notion that it affects attendances is far from clear.

@murphyrob To the economic benefit of CBs? Absolutely not proven, I know three that believe they lose money on it. Also, some CBs (Mayo included) pull out all the stops in terms of production. Many don't, and people won't tolerate those standards for national games.

A lot of talk about the fact that so many games today weren't televised or streamed. But gaelic games is still a live experience, and it's better for everyone if crowds are there. There were games on TV for people who want to stay home, but we need to protect live crowds too.

@lonesharkoy Every inter county game hurling and football. The current situation which has a selection of games on free to air and everything else blocked is a major step back from what we had in 2021 and one that seems to be backed by flawed logic with no room for innovation.

@lonesharkoy After that I believe GAA+ should cover every other game on a paid service as per COVID set up back in 2021, it is a major step backwards that they are not doing this. Run it as a five year trial and compare attendances. Again I emphasise that many people can’t travel.

@lonesharkoy That’s anecdotal and it isn’t undeniable true as you say. Detailed studies constantly come up with conflicting results. For example in many studies show more exposure leads to more interest and then increased attendances.

@murphyrob There is absolutely evidence to support the fact that if the game is on TV, the live crowd suffers. For example, the couple of Offaly finals that were on TG4 'coincided' with much lower than expected attendance. I'm not saying that's the last word, but it's undeniably true.
