The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine strongly condemns another act of barbarism and a cultural crime committed by Russia against Ukraine – a deliberate drone attack on the central part of Lviv, which resulted in damage to UNESCO World Heritage sites within the Historic Centre of Lviv. As a result of drone strikes on civilian buildings in the city centre, people were injured. This attack is not only a war crime against civilians, but also a direct assault on the cultural heritage of humanity, which is under international protection. It was in Lviv that, with the support of international partners and UNESCO, the first UNESCO Cultural Hub in Ukraine was established. This centre was created specifically to protect, restore, and support Ukrainian culture in times of war. By striking at the heart of Lviv, Russia has demonstrated its barbaric disregard for the efforts of the international community and UNESCO itself. We emphasize that Russia continues to systematically violate the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict. We call on UNESCO and all international partners not to limit their response to yet another expression of concern. An aggressor that deliberately destroys world heritage in a city hosting an official UNESCO Cultural Hub must be deprived of any influence within international institutions and face severe consequences. Ukrainian diplomats are officially addressing the UNESCO Secretariat and the Member States of the World Heritage Committee, calling for the consequences of this attack to be documented and for additional cultural sanctions against Russia to be initiated. We express our sincere condolences to the injured residents of Lviv and assure that every instance of destruction and damage to sites of global historical significance will be documented to ensure accountability of the aggressor state and those responsible in both national and international jurisdictions.

Sean, thanks to you, we know what a true friend of Ukraine is. You have stood with Ukraine since the first day of the full-scale war. This is still true today. And we know that you will continue to stand with our country and our people.

I choose to honour the memory of those would be Olympic athletes who were killed by Russia.
Kateryna Lisunova@KaterynaLis

Do you even realize who was depicted on the helmet of banned Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych (@heraskevych )? They were Ukrainian athletes — women, men, and even children — who hoped to be part of the Olympic Games this year or someday in the future. But they never will be. They never stood a chance against Russian missiles. Vladyslav wanted to give them that chance — to carry them with him, to be their guide after death, and to honor their memory. Commemorating fallen athletes should have been among the most respected acts in the eyes of the International Olympic Committee. But not in a world shaped by injustice, Russian money, a loss of values and faith, a lack of dignity, and the absence of basic professional ethics. They told him to change the helmet and everything would be fine — to reject the memory of fellow athletes. He’d get his gold medal and the prize that came with it. After all, he had trained his entire life for this. But he chose dignity and values over a gold medal. This is how ancient legends were born in the past. Now they are returning to a world that has lost its soul. And these legends have Ukrainian faces. Athletes depicted on the helmet: 🖤 Alina Perehudova: Teenage weightlifter. 🖤Pavlo Ischenko: Boxer. 🖤Oleksiy Loginov: Ice hockey player. 🖤Ivan Kononenko: Actor and athlete. 🖤Mykyta Kozubenko: Diving athlete and coach. 🖤Oleksiy Habarov: Shooter. 🖤Daria Kurdel: Dancer. 🖤Dmytro Sharpar: Figure skater killed near Bakhmut. 🖤Yevhen Malyshev: 19-year-old biathlete killed near Kharkiv.

I want to thank everyone for all the support we’re receiving. There really is an incredible amount of it. For me, the sacrifice of the people depicted on the helmet means more than any medal ever could - because they gave the most precious thing they had. And simple respect toward them is exactly what I want to give.

Russia’s full-scale invasion began 4 years ago. It began in winter, so this winter is the 5th. And for civilians the worst. Russia launches missiles & drones at energy infrastructure to force Ukrainians to endure the freezing cold. Here's how you can help snyder.substack.com/p/the-long-ukr…

You have the right to leave the country. You don't have a right to take a piece of it with you. You can hold whatever votes you like. But you can't vote to help yourself to something that isn't yours. All of the territory of Canada belongs to all of Canada. Canada's future can only be decided by Canadians as a whole, not by groups within it, however desperate or fanatical. (Which they are, pretty much by definition: to think that the only solution to your grievances, real or imagined, is to destroy one of the most successful countries that has ever existed marks you out as an extremist from the start.)

The term “law enforcement” should not be used by media, except perhaps in quotations. It has sadly become an Orwellian term that is used to magically sanctify violence. Language matters. Be specific. Describe individuals with names and ranks. Say exactly what they did. Don’t repeat fascist hocum.

Canada condemns Russia’s massive drone strikes on Dnipropetrovsk & Zaporizhzhia regions, which caused a blackout affecting over 1 million people. Russia is once again weaponizing winter against Ukrainians. We call on Russia to immediately cease its strikes on civilian infrastructure and end its illegal war of aggression. Canada will continue working with its international partners to secure a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.
