Demanding people forsake Harry Potter or be cast out as anti-trans is another form of performative activism that gets the movement absolutely nowhere. Florida just voted to force trans teens to detransition. But the social media conversation is almost entirely focused on infighting with/among allies about a video game without a shred of transphobia. HP rallied the outcasts, the nerds and fought for "otherness." HP put the impoverished above the rich, morality over complacency, and promoted labor rights, women's rights, gay rights, and helped an entire generation struggling with its identity and purpose value allies of all walks of life. JKR may be a TERFing you-know-what, but alienating your allies is part of THEIR plan to weaken our collective efforts in the continued fight for equality. The video game isn't the problem. States actively discriminating and harming trans youth is. Join us in that fight, please.
