I am very wary of reports that the UK is now within range of Iranian ballistic missiles. But if the reports are true, let’s be in no doubt: the UK has no defences against such missiles. No dedicated national ballistic missile defence (BMD) system for intercepting intermediate- or intercontinental-range threats aimed at the homeland. No ground-based interceptors (like US THAAD or Patriot systems in Europe) deployed in Britain for this purpose. In theory our T-45 warships could provide some cover. But most are currently undeployable or not in UK waters. Leaving us defenceless from ballistic missile attack. Another massive military failure of the political class of all recent governments.

It is smaller than the American Virginia-class but rated quieter by multiple independent assessments. It carries fewer missiles but needs fewer sailors. In a strait where stealth matters more than volume, the boat that cannot be heard is more dangerous than the fleet that can be seen. The UK is now the third nation with strike capability deployed in the war theatre, after the United States and Israel. France has the Charles de Gaulle carrier group for air operations. Greece has a Patriot battery defending Saudi refineries. Twenty-three nations signed a statement. But only Britain has put a nuclear-powered platform carrying land-attack cruise missiles underwater in the Arabian Sea with the authority to fire them on the Prime Minister’s order. Trump said late. Starmer sent a submarine. The missile it carries can reach Tehran. The reactor that powers it will not need fuel until 2047. They continually portray men and women as combatants in a zero-sum game for health attention. This is why they continually ignore the sex difference in life expectancy and focus instead on quality of life and years of life in disability. In their minds, it's a battle of the sexes. So, they go with the data that favours attention to females. This is childish. There is no reason why sex differences in life expectancy cannot be acknowledged at the same time as sex differences in years in poor health/disability, etc. All of it is important, but to them, only half of it is important.

Credit where it's due: Tucker is amazing at confidently delivering absolute lies. Here he is claiming that Churchill locked up members of the opposition party during WW2. When, in fact, Churchill led a National Government, i.e. one that INCLUDED leaders of the opposition parties in prominent roles. Labour leader Clement Atlee was appointed Churchill's Deputy and other leading Labour and Liberal politicians held major roles in the cabinet. The person Tucker is talking about is Oswald Mosley who was the leader of the British Union of Fascists and was not elected to anything. He wanted Britain to become a fascist country and work with Hitler. Despite this, contrary to Tucker's claims, he was not even detained for the full duration of the war and was released in 1943, two years before it ended. In most other countries he would have been hanged for treason without a second thought the day the war started. Britain's treatment of this tiny group of fascists, i.e. enemy sympathisers and collaborators, during WW2 is an example of extraordinary restraint and respect for the sanctity of human life and freedom that was not only unparalleled in the world at that time but arguably remains rare and hugely admirable even by the standards of today across most of the world. In short, Tucker is completely wrong and we can only conclude that the spreading of these malicious lies is motivated not only by his ignorance of history but also by the fact that he will say ANYTHING he deems necessary to suit his political agenda. His opposition to the current war in Iran, about which I myself have expressed some skepticism, does not justify this behaviour and is, in fact, undermined by it - no right- thinking person can take him seriously after this.
