There are no words to describe the shame that this is. The entire government and court system should be ashamed. In the decades and centuries to come this will be in history books as yet another disgraceful act of this government in defence of a genocidal entity.

Here’s injustice Jeremy Johnson handing down the sentences at today’s disgusting stitched up Palestine Action trial. Any faith I ever had in the fairness of the British justice system is completely is dead.

@stevenh02686151 @afneil Quick question, Steve: do you accept that births also represent population increase, or do you think that "population increase" is a synonymous term with "immigration"?

@patrickamon @afneil Approx 2 million immigrants have moved to London since 1997. Thats the population increase. Thats why house prices have trended upwards massively in London ( and elsewhere in Britain) since 1997.

Tom Wainwright, one of the defence barristers, said of the destruction of drones: “They may have been involved in taking the lives of men, women and children in Gaza. That is why they acted. That’s something that – in a sane world – would be commended.” theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/j…

No sane person would advocate for the right to protest to include taking a sledgehammer to the spine of a police officer. The usual suspects are jumping up and down about lengthy sentences but from such disregard for life & limb consequences must follow. They knew what they were doing or they should have done, much the same as far as equality under the law is concerned.

In Britain, you're a terrorist if you try to materially stop a genocide. If you join a pogrom, you're just "fed up".

@stevenh02686151 @afneil The growth of the population of London certainly didn't start in 1997. Like most major cities in western Europe London's population has been growing since the industrial revolution.

@patrickamon @afneil Nope. Supply and Demand. What happens when Supply doesn't keep up with demand?

@stevenh02686151 @afneil (I mean, OK, sure, it might be, if the recent immigrant we're talking about is a Russian or Qatari millionaire, but that reinforces my point)

@patrickamon @afneil But the government could just tax it away from them. Which is exactly what happened to the aristocrats who used to own all the land.

He’s floated Space X. How many consumers are being price gouged buying rockets? I ask again — give me an example of how Musk becoming a trillionaire (only on paper — he doesn’t have a trillion dollars under the bed) affects you.
Fewton Naulkner@FewtonNaulkner

@afneil Are you being facetious? Such levels of wealth distort democracy with access to power. Such concentrations of wealth are bad for the consumer - it eliminates competition by swallowing up competition via M&As, market dominance etc. and don’t get me started on the term “self-made”

@stevenh02686151 @afneil OK, so it *would* be a problem for Elon to have 15 to 20 trillion, just not for him to have only one trillion? There is a figure that it would be dangerous for just one person to own, it's just that the figure is more than 1 trillion?

No. Because your example is bonkers.

@afneil Imagine one person was rich enough to buy literally all the land in Britain. The rest of us would be, in effect, slaves, in that that person could exact whatever price they wanted in exchange for the right to live here. Now can you see the problem?

@afneil In order for Elon Musk to buy all of the land in Britain there would have to be willing sellers. (My little patch of the West Country isn't up for grabs - sorry Elon!)

@SmugPigFace @afneil Well, quite. @afneil, and others want to claim that some people being extremely rich doesn't affect anyone else, but of course that's not true. Some people being extremely rich means that housing becomes unaffordable for the rest of us.

@patrickamon @afneil It’s frightening when you put it like that. Obviously, his only option is to enslave Britain just so he can live here. But I suppose most people do have to spend a massive chunk of their wealth just to get a London property

@JuliaHB1 Where did Lewis say it was easy? Have you considered addressing the argument made, rather than a completely different strawman argument that you made up?
