Friends-
This is a tough note to write, but since a bunch of you have started to suspect something, I’ll cut to the chase: Last week I was diagnosed with metastasized, stage-four pancreatic cancer, and am gonna die.
Advanced pancreatic is nasty stuff; it’s a death sentence. But I already had a death sentence before last week too — we all do.
I’m blessed with amazing siblings and half-a-dozen buddies that are genuinely brothers. As one of them put it, “Sure, you’re on the clock, but we’re all on the clock.” Death is a wicked thief, and the bastard pursues us all.
Still, I’ve got less time than I’d prefer. This is hard for someone wired to work and build, but harder still as a husband and a dad. I can’t begin to describe how great my people are. During the past year, as we’d temporarily stepped back from public life and built new family rhythms, Melissa and I have grown even closer — and that on top of three decades of the best friend a man could ever have. Seven months ago, Corrie was commissioned into the Air Force and she’s off at instrument and multi-engine rounds of flight school. Last week, Alex kicked butt graduating from college a semester early even while teaching gen chem, organic, and physics (she’s a freak). This summer, 14-year-old Breck started learning to drive. (Okay, we’ve been driving off-book for six years — but now we’ve got paper to make it street-legal.) I couldn’t be more grateful to constantly get to bear-hug this motley crew of sinners and saints.
There’s not a good time to tell your peeps you’re now marching to the beat of a faster drummer — but the season of advent isn’t the worst. As a Christian, the weeks running up to Christmas are a time to orient our hearts toward the hope of what’s to come.
Not an abstract hope in fanciful human goodness; not hope in vague hallmark-sappy spirituality; not a bootstrapped hope in our own strength (what foolishness is the evaporating-muscle I once prided myself in). Nope — often we lazily say “hope” when what we mean is “optimism.” To be clear, optimism is great, and it’s absolutely necessary, but it’s insufficient. It’s not the kinda thing that holds up when you tell your daughters you’re not going to walk them down the aisle. Nor telling your mom and pops they’re gonna bury their son.
A well-lived life demands more reality — stiffer stuff. That’s why, during advent, even while still walking in darkness, we shout our hope — often properly with a gravelly voice soldiering through tears.
Such is the calling of the pilgrim. Those who know ourselves to need a Physician should dang well look forward to enduring beauty and eventual fulfillment. That is, we hope in a real Deliverer — a rescuing God, born at a real time, in a real place. But the eternal city — with foundations and without cancer — is not yet.
Remembering Isaiah’s prophecies of what’s to come doesn’t dull the pain of current sufferings. But it does put it in eternity’s perspective:
“When we've been there 10,000 years…We've no less days to sing God's praise.”
I’ll have more to say. I’m not going down without a fight. One sub-part of God’s grace is found in the jawdropping advances science has made the past few years in immunotherapy and more. Death and dying aren’t the same — the process of dying is still something to be lived. We’re zealously embracing a lot of gallows humor in our house, and I’ve pledged to do my part to run through the irreverent tape.
But for now, as our family faces the reality of treatments, but more importantly as we celebrate Christmas, we wish you peace: “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned….For to us a son is given” (Isaiah 9).
With great gratitude, and with gravelly-but-hopeful voices,
Ben — and the Sasses

As #HockeyFightsCancer Month comes to an end, I wanted to share my news because hockey has taught me that no fight is faced alone.
For anyone out there battling something heavy—whether it’s cancer or another fight entirely—I want you to know you are not alone.

This Thanksgiving feels a bit different. A few months ago, I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It has put a lot into perspective, most of all how lucky I am to be surrounded by so many supportive family and friends. #HockeyFightsCancer

🚨 BOMBSHELL! Elon Musk Discusses a Hidden Brain Cancer Curing Drug 👀
Bookmark this and share with everyone you know… lives can be saved.
The mother of a friend of Elon Musk was diagnosed with brain cancer.. her doctor said she only had a few months to live. His friend did some digging…
—— “There’s a drug that’s in trials, where you take this pill and it actually makes the brain cancer go away, literally.. and it cured his mom.”
The drug is called WELIREG… and maybe more people should know about it.
(welireg.com/#:~:text=WELIR…)
It’s in trials at Harvard and prevented from being approved because of over-regulations.

@Gabby_Brauner27 My guess would be mast cell activation = histamine release in the pleura = vascular permeability there = pleural effusion. No mast cell activation, no permeability, backpressure builds up until you get edema. See pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25915587/

The Mainstream Media Is NOT SHOWING YOU The HORROR The Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii Fires Victims Went Through 🚨 Why?
“People are finding whole families in cars that are just charcoaled & fried. They find the car & they find mom and dad in the front seat & the three kids in the back”
“I just wanted to say thank you to everybody for your concern and for contacting me. It's really bad out here. It's really bad. I don't know how much is on the media. I haven't had a minute to look at the media, but people are finding whole families in cars that are just charcoaled and fried. My best friend Michelle, her friend, her brother's family just... in the car. They find the car and they find mom and dad in the front seat and the three kids in the back. The other bad thing is that school was out that day that the fire raged through Lahaina so parents were at work and all the kids were at home so there's massive amounts of children who perished. We've been taking supplies. No one's been sleeping.
We have three families in our home in Kihei. We're trying to open up a second home and now we're trying to get homes for people who have lost everything. The roads are crazy. It's hard, you know there's only one road going into Lahaina plus the backside and the backside's pretty dangerous. We got Ignite a Life up, helping as best we can. We spent the entire day taking care of our patients at the office at Maui Cardiology.
At two o'clock we closed and we started shopping for folks. And we sent out three, three Suburbans and three other trucks full of supplies this morning through the Hawaiian Canoe Club. We're continuing to help. People are not sleeping on this side. Three fires broke out again yesterday in Hana Kauai, which is past Lahaina. The fire is still not contained up in Kula. But anyway.
Anything that you guys want to donate we're happy to take donations and like I said ignited life always gives 100% of your donation we never take admin fees or anything and we want to just say thank you to everybody who's been Contacting us we appreciate your support and we love you and God bless everybody This is this is just really bad. It's really bad. So um Just pray
Pray for Maui, pray for all our families that are safe here. We're grateful that we are safe and we love all of you. And thank you, bye bye.

@pauljaminet "A diet and health movement based on a scientific theory with as much explanatory potential as evolution seems as though it should not be another passing fad; however, the results from this survey suggest that this may indeed be the case."
