Very sad news of the passing of @sirfrasersays, a giant of chemistry for four decades. He pioneered (with J-P Sauvage) the chemistry of the mechanical bond (catenanes & rotaxanes) & recognised that their well defined motions could be useful for molecular machinery... 1/3

Just done #LBC with Sheila Fogerty on David Lamy’s speech on Climate Change today and the follow up by Lord Deben. Labour and Conservative unity! This may well be the speech that changes the way we think about climate change and turning hesitation to action!

@JoeOttenX The mass number is there in the iupac PT, directly under the element name. E.g. carbon 12.011 (6 protons and 6 neutrons) with accurate masses (12 if simplified but no one uses the integer value only the decimal).

@peterstyring This has got to be the most official periodic table, right: iupac.org/what-we-do/per… There are atomic weights here but no mass numbers - we are taught at school that the mass number is the number of protons plus the number of neutrons, so you'd need an entry per isotope.

Chemistry twitter. Am I missing something or is this question bananas? Periodic tables are not all the same. The mass number is a property of an isotope not an element. I'd expect a periodic table to show atomic number and atomic mass for each element not mass number.

@JoeOttenX Teach them that the mass number is always bigger than the atomic number and that they have to make an informed decision rather than learning by rote. If you look at a UK periodic table iodine is I. If you look at a Spanish PT it is J. Each textbook Is different !

12 years the first tiny carbon dioxide capture system was tested at the University of Sheffield we have now delivered our first 1 t/d kit to Holmen, Cumbria. Commissioned over the next couple of days, samples analysis next week. #ccuinternational #Flue2CHEM #universityofsheffield
