Today, Saturday, Fatima Sarah and I visited Almat Farms Abuja. It’s really a place to be. Tourism and Farm. Abuja’s most Luxurious Resort. A very natural and serene environment set in the beautiful rolling green belt Country side of Kuje FCT. There is no regret visiting Almat.

Today we sprayed one of the greenhouses we’re preparing for tomatoes. And honestly… I didn’t like it. I didn’t like the fact that we were using chemicals. So I went back home and started researching alternatives. If we say we care about sustainability, then we must be willing to question our methods. Then I saw a video of a carnivorous plant called the Nepenthes. They call it the “monkey cup.” But me? I call it nature’s thirst trap for bugs. It literally attracts insects, traps them in its cup, and digests them. No spray. No residue. No chemical smell. Just biology doing what biology was designed to do. And it made me think… What if pest control in greenhouses could lean more into nature? What if we combined innovation with ecology instead of defaulting to chemicals? Now let’s be practical. Can this plant replace pesticides completely? Probably not. But can it be part of an integrated pest management system? Maybe. Because smart farming is not about being extreme. It’s about being intentional. There are already biological controls farmers use: – Beneficial insects – Companion planting – Neem-based solutions – Microbial sprays So the real question is not, “Can a monkey cup save the farm?” The real question is: How do we reduce chemical dependency while protecting yield? As farmers, we must balance three things: 🌱 Productivity 🌱 Profitability 🌱 Sustainability And sometimes, innovation starts with discomfort. Today I felt uncomfortable spraying chemicals. Tomorrow, that discomfort might push us into a smarter system. Farming is business. But it must also be responsibility. What do you think — would you experiment with biological pest control in your greenhouse?

Miss AGRICULTURE 👩🏽‍🌾@kupal_robinson

Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the 100 Level Faculty of Agriculture orientation at the Federal University Lokoja, and I didn’t expect it to impact me the way it did. At some point, I sat quietly observing the students and wondering, “What could be going on in their minds?” Especially knowing that many of them may not have directly applied for this path. Life really takes different turns, and sometimes you only realize it when you pause and reflect. One of the highlights was a session on biotechnology, agricultural policy, and science communication. Which was anchored by a representative from @OFABnigeria , Dr. Rose Gidado. It was refreshing to see these conversations introduced at such an early stage. Resistant seed varieties were even planted at the end of the session which is a simple, but powerful reminder that innovation in agriculture must move from theory to practice. It made me realize something deeply. Agriculture is no longer just about planting and harvesting. It is science, communication, strategy and policy. And if we truly want progress, these areas must work together. Sometimes you attend an event thinking you’re just there to observe. But you leave realizing you were being reminded of your purpose. And yesterday reminded me why I care so much about the future of sustainable agriculture. #MissAgriculture

The loss of 7 journalists from @NUJNigeria & @NGE_Nigeria in Gombe is really shocking. Their contributions to Nigeria's media landscape & democracy will be deeply missed. This tragedy costs our nation voices that amplify truth & hold power accountable. 🙏 #RIPJournalists"
