The Raid (2011) Dir. Gareth Evans The Raid was released in cinemas 15 years ago this evening, and it's still one of the greatest, most revolutionary action/crime films of modern times. On a shoestring budget, Gareth Evans made a film that put Hollywood studios to shame, blending survival‑horror with bone‑crunching hand‑to‑hand combat, introducing the world to the Indonesian martial art of Pencak Silat. This film would go on to influence John Wick, Netflix's Daredevil series as well as countless other martial arts and action flicks. A true classic.
