The solution would have been to avoid getting into the quagmire in the first place. If there was a compelling need to strike, perhaps another limited operation like Midnight Hammer. Now that Iranian leadership has been killed, and their military decimated (according to reports), declare victory, and end operations. Let the Iranian people on behalf of whom this conflict was reportedly initiated take back their own government. If the response is that they cannot withdraw now because they have lost control of the Straits of Hormuz, then it was poor planning from the beginning when people were specifically warning that would happen. In which case, from the get-go, you were getting into a problem that would necessarily turn into a protracted, messy conflict. If you felt absolutely compelled to get into what you knew would be a protracted, messy conflict, do it after the midterms, and not before, thereby fracturing the coalition and doing maximum political damage to the 2026 midterms. Does that answer satisfy you? Of course, it’s too late for any of this, and that will probably be your response. In which case, there was never any answer I could give that would satisfy you.

I think some of this is the theory you always support your commander-in-chief when engaged in acts of war.
