@TomsPedalDemos Delay. It's a security blanket of sorts. I use a miniscule amount, and in headphones it seems like a good thing, but in a room, not so much. Its the little blinking light I think, doing its metronome thing that actually helps...

The Question of the day weekend edition. Name a pedal you keep turning on “just in case” but don’t really need.

@Cobratate I've never seen James Bond dance like a ponce. But he has occasionally hidden in closets, so there's that. Obviously he comes out again. Perhaps you will, soon?

@Handre 3 day week was in '73- '74, under Heath government,in which Thatcher was a minister. The February '74 election resulted in a hung parliament, Wilson forming a minority government. Wilson got a majority later that year. Thatcher never forgave Heath,Wilson but punished the miners.

Thatcher inherited a Britain where the state owned everything from steel mills to telephone lines. Unemployment hit 11.9% in 1984, inflation ran at 18% when she took office, and strikes paralyzed entire industries for months (the three-day work week wasn't a lifestyle choice). She privatized British Telecom in 1984, British Gas in 1986, and rolled back union power that had strangled productivity for decades. The results speak louder than any economic theory: Britain's GDP per capita rose from $10,000 in 1980 to $19,000 by 1990. Critics still blame her for "inequality" - missing the point entirely. You can't redistribute wealth that doesn't exist first. The alternative wasn't some egalitarian paradise... it was Argentina.

Last night I learned about GK Chesterton's 'fence' from @michaelgove. As a largely uneducated man, this was new to me. Been thinking about it all day

@MichaelRosenYes Phonics is utter madness- you spend x amount of years teaching it & x² amount of time unlearning it. I taught my youngest (the only child of mine that got exposed to phonics) her Ay Bee Cees only to be told by her nursery that ah-buh-cuh was better. It isn't.

Govt laying down guidelines for under-5s and screentime but not for books time. Former Schools Minister Nick Gibb wasn't happy about pre-schoolers reading real books. He said they're 'confusing' 'cos children who are learning to read should only read phonics books.

@floboflo Forensic analysis of politics is dead on every platform. It's been replaced by 'sound-nibbles' & 'gotcha' moments. The media,of every stripe is chock full of imbeciles,or worse, plying an idiotic trade for a 10 second clip in what is left of the limelight. It's infuriating.

@MalHay @brendangrady11 What you see around you is the creation of the Tories - natural lag between policy & effect hides the progress that Labour have made. Its not healthy to have trial by social media for any government - it creates a febrile atmosphere & stupid people draw the wrong conclusions

I'm 78, I've seen many governments come & go over that time & never seen such a disastrous PM & government so totally out of their depth, sowing the seeds of division destroying our lives culture & country I just pray I live long enough to see a new light dawn on this country 🇬🇧

@MalHay Our PM ,& probably the last 4/5 have suffered greatly from media overexposure. I remember back to the first Wilson government,& they basically just got on with it,without a public outcry every 2.5 seconds - currently they spend more time on the back-foot than actually governing

@HenryRileyA6 @XMartinsMusicX You should. Beware of YouTube, because the quality if the live gigs in there is ultra dodgy. I saw them in a little club, supporting Kirk Brandon's Spear of Destiny. I think Derek played bass for Spear at some point ( but not that night- it was Craig Adams).

@sideeply @XMartinsMusicX I'll have to take a look into 'The Dark'. All the best SM recordings seemed to have Derek on bass. Such a stylish player.

@thatuapgirl Smiths S&V were always blue, their Chipsticks still are. M&S still use blue for all S&V. I can't remember whether Walkers were ever blue but I don't think so.

@HenryRileyA6 @XMartinsMusicX Yep. A year or so ago I saw Derek do Simple Minds classics (& a few new tunes) with The Dark ,& not only was it a bass driven pumping sound but Derek sings better than Jim ever did. Tellingly, The Dark don't even have a guitarist. (or need one) Bass,Drums,Keys. Blistering....

There's never been a more glorious career-sabotaging album by a chart-topping pop artist than ABC's "Beauty Stab" in 1983, the follow-up to "The Lexicon Of Love".
