Hogwarts Legacy also defies the “go woke, go broke” trend. It is one of the wokest games I have ever played; as obnoxious about it as Last of Us 2. It depicts a nineteenth century Hogwarts that is about 60% nonwhite. One of the major characters is an African exchange student. A character whose job in the game is to run a series of side quests about solving puzzles in the environment randomly informs you that she is gay. The Three Broomsticks pub in Hogsmeade is run by a non-passing transwoman named Sirona Ryan and there is a sidequest where you collect lost letters to learn the story of Sirona’s transition.

Hogwarts Legacy sold 40M copies, even with a performative internet boycott. The Harry Potter series could be the biggest series in HBO history.

I stopped watching the movies when it got to the dwarf tossing scene. Not sure which movie that was. I was pissed.

There are some things I like about Clavicular, but his physique isn’t one of them. His muscle proportions are just way off. Makes him look like a crackhead with nice delts.

Steven Bartlett asks the uncomfortable question every employer faces: “What do I do? Give people three years off when they have a kid?” Erica Komisar’s blunt answer: “Give them as much time off as you possibly can — men and women, whoever is the primary attachment figure. Then give them real flexibility: part-time, job-sharing, working from home, leaving early. Accept that parents with young children won’t stay as late as childless employees. Tough. Life isn’t fair. Healthy children matter more than perfect parity.” The early years (especially the first 3) are the critical attachment window. Prioritizing parental presence isn’t just nice — it’s foundational for emotional health, resilience, and long-term societal outcomes. Employers & parents: Should companies be expected to accommodate long parental leave and flexible hours for young kids, even if it creates imbalance with childless staff? Or is that asking too much in a competitive world? Your honest take 👇

@sweasel @OrwellNGoode You're still a babe. (I assume). I Googled the inventor of Moon Pies and he had one daughter, so I pretended that I was knowledgeable.

There's one near me that's run by Turks. I ordered a burrito to go and it came as a burrito assembly kit: cold ingredients in one box, hot in another and the sauce in a third. It wasn't bad, but the tortilla was in with the melty cheese so you couldn't really arrange it into a burrito.

I assure you my desk was never this neat, and I had never even contemplated a book stand. Also, I used David H. Ahl's books. Magazines seemed like a gyp.

@sweasel @InezFeltscher Which is stupid and not what any other first world nation does. Regular checkups and doctor visits help prevent massive expenses down the road. America is such a backwards place sometimes.

Catastrophic insurance is actually what “insurance” is supposed to mean. Routine costs (doc visits, occasional urgent care, prescriptions, the sort of stuff that people predictably use) were paid in cash - and were cheaper because of it. INSURANCE was supposed to be for unpredictable costs, like getting cancer or hit by a bus. And catastrophic insurance was fantastic for that purpose without breaking the bank. “Insurance” for predictable, routine costs that most people incur is just called “paying overhead on top of expenses,” which is why most people carry accident insurance but not maintenance insurance on their cars. It wasn’t consumers who were stupid.
Launch! - Blue Haired Liberal@DBZYuYuYasha

@InezFeltscher Catastrophic insurance basically isn't insurance. That's why it was effectively banned. Most consumers don't understand how it would work and therefore it's not fit to sell.
