50 jobs in 30 years, from bindi pasting to assisting in abortions. @nehadixit123's book is a stark reminder that even as the rich live grander lives in higher towers, absolutely nothing changes for the majority, especially if Muslim, writes Priya Ramani ndtvprofit.com/opinion/the-in…

Dear Vinesh, It is said that sport is a celebration of human will. I have known that to be true many times in my career but never has it resonated more than today. As I look around me, I see a nation and its people celebrate your unyielding resolve. You are a fighter – on and off the mat. Through you, we are learning what it means to never lose the fight in us, even as a loss weighs heavily. You embody the true spirit of a warrior. Not all victories look alike. Some end up as a glittering souvenir in a cabinet but the ones that matter more find their way into the stories we tell our children. And every child in this country will know the champion you are. Every child will grow up wanting to face life with the resilience you have displayed. I thank you for that. Respect, Abhinav Bindra @phogat_vinesh

The most telling part of @jon_selvaraj s truly excellent piece on how India's wrestling fed let Vinesh down, yet again: "She wanted to compete in the still manageable 53kg category... Vinesh desperately asked for trials..The federation didn’t budge" sportstar.thehindu.com/olympics/paris…

This time, the tears flowed as I wrote this piece :') Speaking to me in December, Vinesh Phogat told me: "The only thing I have told Bajrang and Sakshi is that I will still fight. I will look him [Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh] in the eye and medal leke aungi main, tu dekh [bring back a medal and show it to him]. They both have Olympic medals, I don't. I have a reason to fight. If I train well, I can win a medal. No one can stop me." On August 6, 2024 those very words came to life :') READ? espn.in/olympics/story… #Paris2024 | #Olympics | #Wrestling
