@PaulTassi Probably don't want my GPU to just run its own filter, but as a capability used and implemented by the artist, there's obvious huge potential

@PaulTassi Been playing AAA games lately, and for how great environments look, terrible facial animations in-engine are totally ubiquitous and distracting. Clearly a place that modern ai techniques could help.

@BlueSSBM Some of Mango's wins really changed the game (Pound 3, G1, summit 11), because he did something that felt impossible, not inevitable. Being the underdog is at odds with being unstoppable.

@BlueSSBM Cody's demonstrates greater dominance, but this isn't what was ever inspiring about Mango's loser's runs. After he wins vs Zain, him winning the whole tournament felt inevitable, even if there's like 5 sets to go. Mango at Pound 3 wasn't inevitable, it was a miracle.

@IsomorphicPhi My friend in his pure math phd just got an advisor that is having start to work on representations over finite fields, but he doesn't know any applications yet. Do you have insight?

@IsomorphicPhi Are you aware of applications for representations over non closed fields? Most of the applications I know, Fourier series, or crystals in physics, or qm, all are over C.

Some people seemingly think that there is a certain 'finality' to the complex field, in the sense that once you see the imaginary unit you'll never work over any other field or ring, and that it in addition is secretly default all along

@tenobrus I don't see in a concrete way how things get so automated that we reach 20% unemployment; I could see there being serious downward pressure on white collar wages, for sure.

@tenobrus is going to be automated by this very quickly. Robotics is slow and will be prohibitively expensive. Getting transformers to do anything multimodal is hard and requires inordinate multimodal data.

like really think about it. how "well off" do you think you'll feel as a multimillionaire founder or remaining employee at a hyperscaler as the unemployment rate climbs above 20% and there's blood in the streets? the striving is irrelevant man. ur climbing dead social structures

Made an "analog" YouTube book for my kid so she can choose what she wants (from pre-approved list) without being exposed to a thumbnail hellscape. Also automatically cuts her off after x scans

OpenAI prism is a disastrous tool for science. Really the worst I could imagine. And it's going to be a huge success.

@o_b_z_d_n Of course in some ultimate sense, on a cosmic time scale, entropy goes up. But on this economic time scale, the amount of wealth continue to rise substantially; there's vastly more wealth now than any time in history.

That person blocked me so I can't respond there. I will grant, without looking any of it up, that everything you've said here is true. I'm not going to fact check you because whether or not you are completely accurate doesn't change how I'm going to respond, and that response is: Where were all the people calling Obama a fascist? Where were all the people harassing law enforcement? Where was the media outrage? It's wasn't there because even though they knew it was happening, they were OK with it as long as a democrat was doing it. That's the difference. That's what I'm talking about when I say "nobody cared". The general reaction from the media and the public is completely different. The only good point you've made on this subject is that Trump's rhetoric is different. Trump's rhetoric does legitimately lend itself to extreme reactions, and nobody is obligated to believe that he is joking when he says some of the things he says. If your contention is that the reaction is different simply because Trump's rhetoric is too extreme and he is a deeply polarizing figure, I can agree with that. But I don't think that any of his actions, so far, with regards to immigration rise to the level of fascism like so many on the left are claiming. And it's possible that Minneapolis is just a super lib city, since they rioted after George Floyd's death too.
drew@theunabletable

@o_b_z_d_n @beatmastermatt Immigration (as well as drone strikes, and corporate bailouts) is a huge reason why people who bought into "yes we can" felt totally burned by the "business as usual" that they got. This whole point is just so shallow.
