Something happened to me at a wedding last month that I have been trying to process ever since. It was a beautiful wedding. Outdoor reception, good music, etc. I was having a genuinely good time. I found my table, sat down, introduced myself to the people around me the way you do at weddings when you're placed with strangers. Small talk. Complimenting outfits. Asking how you know the couple. She said "what's your name again?" I told her. She put her fork down. She said "we were in the same class for three years." I looked at her. She looked at me. I had absolutely no memory of this woman. Not a flicker. Nothing. She could have been anyone. A complete stranger in green asoebi who apparently had shared a classroom with me for three full years. But here is the thing. She hadn't recognised me either...

A 20-year-old American college student went missing in the mountains of Japan during a family vacation. His body was found days later. James "Weston" Higginbotham, an Auburn University student from Alabama, was on a trip with his family near Kyoto when he had an argument with his mother about the environmental impact of using ChatGPT. He decided to go off alone. On May 29 he took a train, turned off his phone location, and disappeared into the dense forested mountains. Despite a massive search involving police, volunteers, dogs, drones, and helicopters, his body was discovered on June 6 in a mountainous area outside Kyoto by a volunteer search and rescue group. The cause of death has not been officially released, and authorities say there is no evidence of foul play at this time. Weston's family described him as a passionate environmentalist and nature lover.
