@CooperZurad @joelmartinez Somebody has never needed to upgrade all the electricity wiring for ground protection, or had to re-do all the gas pipes because of a new government mandate that gas pipes must now go on the outside of the building… Also google "UK cladding crisis".

can anyone ELI5 why software needs to be "maintained"? Like why do you need whole teams working on stuff that already works? Hardware doesn't work like this If it functions, it functions and does not need to be changed unless you're replacing something worn out.

I love how in Tron Ares there's this big bullshit set piece going on and even the movie ITSELF goes "this is just garbage, let's do something else", and turns down the movie volume (including some lines) just to instead drown it out with some awesome Nine Inch Nails.

@live_evergreen ironic that you call yourself "evergreen life" when your solutions are so technically awful that they cause widespread death. I'm a programmer and I cannot fathom how it's possible to produce such a bad product.

Because of latency, crewed trips to Mars will have to bring a local AI on the ship. Will they be able to resist naming it HAL?

Another milestone. Live RF monitoring into a client side WASM app. This is me pressing PTT twice.

Well, >1000 people reading my blog at once turned into a load test. To the point where I don't know what the true number is.

TIL `cat -n` is non-standard, and behaves completely differently on OpenBSD vs Linux. And frankly, `cat -n file 1 file2` when file1 doesn't end with a newline cannot possibly be what anybody wants, on OpenBSD?

Which, to be clear, I manually confirmed are in fact bugs.

If you feel bad about LLMs finding flaws in your code, a way to cheer up is to point it at other people's code, like OpenBSD, and see that in fact nobody is able to write bug free code. I just randomly picked `cat` and `find` in OpenBSD and found logic and memory bugs.

Chance of a lifetime for a certain someone to make an actually funny self deprecating joke: "Only losers concede!" But self aware? Not his style.

@OVPN_official if you've decided to stop publishing transparency reports, why does your transparency page say you publish them monthly?

WASM has some rough edges to set up, but once set up I think this unlocks doing more JS projects currently prevented by not wanting to deal with JS.

@googlecloud why are you sending me "important security information" advisories about React and Next.js? I have never used anything React or Next.js. And the notification details are just "Hey, just so you know, React and Next.js suck, so use cloud armor"? Not "you use it here"

Pretty graph to validate my arctan implementation in RISC-V rvv assembly. Since the 7 coefficient full range version is like 30+ times faster than the native way, I guess the only reason to use the native one is if one simply MUST have ieee754 semantics? Faster still w/ -1 to 1.
