YE WAS LITERALLY 15 YEARS AHEAD OF HIS TIME IN 2012 (CRUEL SUMMER ERA). Ye explained to the crowd that the design was meant to represent a "post-Steve Jobs era [...]" It's the concept of "surround sound" but applied to vision. Instead of a single traditional screen, the installation uses 7 synchronized screens: front, sides, but most importantly on the CEILING and FLOOR (under a glass platform). The visual immersion is total. Before him, people only thought of horizontal panoramas (360°). Ye was the first to integrate verticality (floor + ceiling) to exactly replicate human perception. He anticipated the technology of immersive domes and the Las Vegas Sphere a decade in advance. In May 2012, at the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of his short film Cruel Summer. I’m trying not to overreact, but I genuinely think that film has one of the best open endings I’ve ever seen.
