@CodeRed_dev proton is seriously the most important thing valve is doing. every game ive tried runs at least as well as it did on windows if not better, and some older games i couldnt get to run on windows 10 at all work with NO tinkering with proton.

@CodeRed_dev Steam forums where there is always someone who found a solution. One guy for a mid-tier JRPG found a stuttering solution by altering 2 values in a hex editor.

@CodeRed_dev Only getting your game on steam next fest is even more valuable than $100, Valve Rocks
English

@CodeRed_dev It’s the best service in the entire games industry for the players/customers.
For devs it’s a great platform to make a living but I know that 30% cut hurts them.
If it truly wasn’t worth it to publish on steam then epic games and gog would’ve taken over by now.

@CodeRed_dev Steam works multiplayer is also a big one. No longer are we in the world where people need to port forward and create small servers for people to play with their friends :)
English

@CodeRed_dev this is ragebait, right? the valve index came out like a decade ago, is hella expensive, and does not benefit the average dev at all. it's neat! but that's kind of all it is. I would rather keep my 30%.

@CodeRed_dev Proton is actually a way bigger deal that most people realize. i switched to linux a few months ago and proton is nothing but magical.
English

@CodeRed_dev They also provide networking services for online games free. It is just crazy
English

@CodeRed_dev Proton, Workshop and Remote Play just sweeps every single other company in the game industry
English

@CodeRed_dev I wish they had decent competition, that's the biggest problem with steam in my opinion.
English

@CodeRed_dev This is correct but you can't just quote "valve does nothing" without linking the source...
Otherwise you are arguing with yourself.
English

@CodeRed_dev 30%
But yeah, this is still a better deal than any other platform.
Still... 15% would be nice. Gabe has enough yachts for 10 lifetimes.
English

@CodeRed_dev Valve has a few hundred employees and makes billions a year. That list needs to be several times longer.
And some of the items on that list are basically weekend projects for a single dev.
English

@CodeRed_dev Only useful thing Valve ever did is SteamVR. Link is trash, Cloud Saves only work on Steam-bought games, sames for Remote Play and RPT, Index is way too expensive, you can get a Quest, Discovery queue mostly has trash, voice chat is buggy, etc.
English

@CodeRed_dev SteamVR. It is the only real way to run VR on the PC besides Monado these days.
English

@CodeRed_dev TF2 fans are angry because the multi billion dollar corporation is busy doing other important things instead of updating a piece of shit broken game from 2007.
