EU: "Our sanctions will crush Russia." Reality: Diesel in Russia costs around €0.80 per liter - while in the EU it’s about €2.20 per liter.

@MarioBojic Low taxes. Non GMO. Free healthcare. Land given for free for building homes, farming or starting businesses. Apartments for the poor. Families receive money for every child, for the third child the state repays the family's mortgage ($7,000) and - cheap diesel. How is EU doing?

@MarioBojic The price difference (if you're not lying for 2.20 is too high) is from excise. Countries are cutting that.

@MarioBojic They claimed sanctions would crush Russia. Instead Europe weakened itself economically and militarily. Higher energy, declining industry, depleted forces. With US support uncertain, the reality is exposed. This is not strategy. It is self inflicted decline.

@MarioBojic The situation in Russia clearly shows how sanctions and reduced demand can create practical problems: oil exists, but there are fewer buyers and less space to store it. Action to take for Russia is starting to close and scale down the production of oil. Well done EU, keep it up!

💡 What happens next? European leaders have already gathered for an emergency summit in Brussels to try to contain the crisis. Measures under discussion: a temporary reduction in fuel taxes (which account for up to 60% of the price of gasoline), the introduction of diesel subsidies (as in Greece), and even a return to the gas price cap. Forecast: Analysts warn that even if the conflict ends tomorrow, it will take at least two months for prices to stabilize. Meanwhile, as the situation worsens, Europeans are starting to travel to neighboring countries for cheaper fuel—for example, from Germany to Switzerland.

@MarioBojic Here in Greece it is € 1,99, € 2,-- in other words. But people earn less here, so the impact is the same, if not worse even! ⛽😏

Gasoline prices can be misleading if you only look at the numbers. In Russia, if fuel costs about 0.80!€ per liter, while in Germany it's around 2.20 € per liter..at first glance Russia seems much cheaper but incomes are much lower in Russia than in Germany. That means even though the price per liter is lower, gasoline actually takes up a bigger share of people's income in Russia. So in real terms fuel is relatively more expensive in Russia and more affordable in Germany. It's not just about the price it's also about purchasing power.

@MarioBojic Yes but the Russian political..... Err, sorry there's no political in Russia. Whatever Putin says should be, should be. So to keep the population in side, he'll artificially control the price of fuel. There's no comparison.
